H A L (1 letter off I B M for those who pay attention) was the first AI stalker.

Back then I B M was THE computer company and still surprised how many folks missed it when the movie was originally released.

I keep trying to figure out if one of us on the SEC OT is the breakthrough thinker in the lot.

The SEC OT

The one of us who evolves

I'm pretty sure it was pio, but unfortunately he only used his powers for evil.

By the way, at the end of that scene, the transformation from the bone into a spaceship remains one of the most memorable shots in cinema history, imho.

Arthur C. Clarke called it a "three-million year jump cut."

If the spaceship was a warship, that would be very clever movie making.

We are still poo flinging monkeys and are devolving at warp speed now!

Big worry as this is the future of AI

You're on to something
quote:

When the film does its famous match-cut from prehistoric bone-weapon to orbiting satellite, Stanley Kubrick originally intended that the latter be established as orbiting nuclear weapons by a voice-over narrator.

Further, Kubrick intended that the Star Child would detonate the weapons at the end of the film.

Eventually Kubrick decided that this would create too many associations with his previous film Dr. Strangelove, and he decided not to make it so obvious that they were "war machines."
