They should have just raised a kid that doesn't embarrass them in public.

It never worked with my kids. I can't bring myself to spank hard enough to be a deterrent.
It would probably work on my son, but he never really does anything to warrant a spanking. It absolutely would not work on my daughter. She is a redheaded spitfire and would most likely laugh during the process. She really doesn't do anything to warrant one either though. Not that they're perfect angels that never cross the line, just never far enough that warrants a spanking.

I'd rather be witness to the awkward spanking then to their kids acting like idiots in public and essentially running wild.
I figure taking things away like the phone, TV, gaming system, etc probably hurts more at this point. But if it needs to happen, I don't see myself being above it. And part of the problem with kids today is they have parents who are too busy wanting to be their friends instead of their parents.

If you spank the kid the kid should be allowed to kick the dog. Hierarchy.

the worst is the assbag parents that take their brats to a nice up scale place and then let them run wild. I wish more restaurants here would ban kids.

Is there anything more awkward than when someone spanks their child in public? Horrible.
It literally turns my stomach. Saw a guy at a restaurant spank his son because he accidentally knocked a drink over. Kid wasn't even acting up, it was clearly an accident.

I was rarely spanked as a child and don't have kids, so I don't have a solid opinion.
But my favorite spanking story was from my cousin. She got her first spanking, turned around and said, "Why did you hit me?" Mom: "Because you didn't pick up your toys." Kid: "Yeah, but why did you hit me?"
Her Mom never spanked her again - whether that turned out to be a good choice or not is currently debatable...

Yeah, the people that do it in public seem to do it for not very good reasons. I think when parents punish their children they should do it with a clear head. Not just beat their arse whenever they get angry/frustrated.

I didn't ever get spanked for accidents, but I did a good lecturing or a stern look sometimes.
Kid's have to learn to be careful and pay attention to their surroundings... Otherwise you end up with adults that break their phones all the time, and sue people cause they can't watch where they are going and hurt themselves stepping off a curb that wasn't painted yellow and didn't have a sign.

There's nothing special about a kid's arse that makes it different than hitting them somewhere else on their body.
Agreed...stick to the face. Gets the point across better anyways.

I think around 95% of the time spanking is just lazy parenting.

My parents never did it in public, they'd usually squeeze my arm to let me know they meant business or take me someplace private to scold me.

bunch of folks in here that obviously don't have kids

They pretty much raise themselves. Just need some oatmeal and an HBO Go account.

I don't have kids, but I know the difference between good parenting and lazy parenting. Now am I saying I wouldn't be a lazy parent? I don't know, that's part of the reason I don't have them. They are a lot of work and cost alot, .

Korean Stress Position. Little baston the will figure it out after kneeling on A cold tile floor holding a bible on their forearms for an hour.

Exactly. No one ever starts hitting their kid with a clear head, it's always out of anger.

Any parent that says they are never lazy with their parenting is lying. It's a 24/7 job and it's inevitable you're going to get lazy at times. The goal is to not let the lazy times dictate the rest of your parenting.
It's a lot easier to just spank when they're bad rather than reward them for when they're good. Kids are like dogs in that regard. Reward them for behaving like you want them to, and they'll strive to always earn your praise. Free advice from The Spleen.
