Lots of threats/talk of danger swirling around about the Russian olympics. Does anyone actually trust the Russian government to keep security tight and protect American citizens??? Sochi's proximity to countries with known terrorist issues isn't very warming either.

I know the athletes have dedicated a lot of time but I wish we could pull out of these Olympics. The fact that we have to have 2 warships off the Sochi coast for emergency evac is concerning.

What does everyone think the blow-back would be if we did not participate?

The US should participate in Sochi as planned. This will provide the military-industrial complex the opportunity to ensure that American citizens are harmed leading the US to engage in another military conflict. Said conflict will save the country from the current dire economic straits.

I dont think we should pull out.I would leave the choice up to each athlete. if they dont feel safe then they can leave. I dont think the terrorist will try shite in Sochi. I believe its a bunch of talk because they know if they pull this in Russia, then the gloves come off. Russia doesn't fight with its hands tied behind its back so whatever country the terrorist happen to come from is likely to look like the surface of the moon.

You don't poke the bear especially with a KGB agent as president.

This is probably a better idea. I'm not usually an alarmist with terrorist stuff but something about this gives me a bad feeling. You've got to know there is a lot of the extremist influence from the middle east in that area of Russia

If the athletes want to be there then let them take the risk.

I feel like if the US officially pulled out then its letting terrorist win. I know terrorist aren't exactly the most logical people in the world but committing an act of terror at the olympics in Russia just isn't a good idea. The Russians aren't going to play the political game if you kill Russian athletes or citizens/embarrass them. They don't have to worry about the media tying their hands behind their back like the US does. Also if the terror attack kills a US citizen then good luck on the US trying to back down Russia from crushing your country. It would be a sort of terrorist won a battle but sealed their fate on a larger scale.

No, but if an athlete doesn't want to participate, it should be up to them.

Putin won't let ANYTHING happen to the Olympics even if he has to wrestle bombs himself. An attack would make him appear weak. I think the media's just blowing it out of proportion. There were "problems" in London as well and that turned out fine.

He'd rather laugh his way through a presser on Russia obliterating a village that may have had a terrorist cell than be embarrassed.
