I jailbroke by iPhone 3GS. Its super easy. If you spend time researching the best tweaks and apps from Cydia its worth it. Cydia is very un organized. Read idownloadblog or jailbreaknation.

Definitely. As long as you don't go crazy with the theming, there are no cons I can think of. Doing too much will slow it down significantly and cause it to crash sometimes, and that can be annoying. But for a few added functionalities, it'll handle it like a pro, and you'll be hooked.

Good things to install:
Bulletin
NCSettings
Activator

No it's a pain in the arse to keep up with. The different apps are cool but not worth the headache

I think I want to do it, but then it seems like there is so much to organize. I don't even like organizing my apps on my phone now. I always forget which page they are on and which folder I've put them in.

Keep up with how?

I jail broke my phone. Set it up how I wanted. Never messed with it again. Took me about 2 hours from start to finish to get what I want. I researched what tweaks I wanted though.

Bella, most of the things you do won't appear as app icons. They are tweaks. Kinda hard to explain. I only have four extra app icons from jail breaking. And stuck them in a folder. Never have to use them really.

Its like the notification center. Its there in the background but its not a app or app icon. One of my favorite tweaks is KillBackground. It adds a little redbutton to the bottom right hand side of the pages when you double tap to kill the apps. Google it.

So which program did you pick to jailbreak?

Depends on your iOS version. If you are up to date, iOS 6.1.2 then you use Evasi0n. If you are iOS 5 or lower you can you Green Pois0n. If you are running 6.1.3 then you are out of luck. It breaks the jailbreak.

ETA. Make sure its untethered.

I double tap the top of my screen and it kills all background apps.

And Bella, I can't remember. I'll look it up. It was the untethered version.

I'll help you out.

***if you plan on jailbreaking then do not upgrade to 6.1.3 or you cannot jailbreak. if you have already upgraded to 6.1.3 then you are out of luck and there likely will not be another jailbreak until iOS 7.x***

For any other information, you can visit the evasi0n jailbreak thread on the OT.

I jailbroke my 5 and never looked back. Although you have to have a little bit of a tech geek side to enjoy it/figure it out.

There is no real reason not to. It's legal. It opens your phone's abilities to what feels like endless customization.... you can even make it operate on other phone's OS's like android or HTC. and the only reason NOT to do it is that it is crashy once in a while and there is a pretty huge learning curve to knowing how to use cydia and all that. that, and if you're REALLY dumb, you could brick your phone out i have HEARD. never known anyone that has bricked their phone by doing it.

take your time learning it. learn ALL about cydia before you start downloading... also pay REAL close attention to all the words on each program's main download screen so you know if there are incompatibilities.

there is also an app you need to download so that if you screw something up, you can go back to this program and it works like a restore point. idk what it's called.

last word of advice, i wouldn't get the free tethering programs. your carrier can notice data usage.
