Mostly so no spam, bots, pron whatever gets on the phone. Im not too worried about what 10 year olds may email each other.

A smart phone for her 13th birthday would be a great "rite of passage" into the teen years. Just set parameters for responsibility and hold her to them.

My Dad got me my very own shot gun for my 13th birthday. I was so proud and it made me respect him and listen closely to his rules for it. It made me feel like I passed a major test in life when he took me huntng and gave me instructions on how to handle guns.

Just wondering who all here might have a preteen with a phone.

I’m against it as she doesn’t NEED it. It’s just an excuse to get on SnapChat at this point. Thoughts?

Got my daughter one in 8th grade because she was involved in extracurricular activities and my wife and I both worked. This would have been about 2005. At that time about a third of the kids at that age had them. Now every kid in middle school has a cell phone. It is now the ultimate inclusion device for kids...

Thoughts?

Is she willing to pay for it?

Is she good with normal interpersonal communication?
