3nOut you should also try The Lies of Locke Lamora if you like The Name of the Wind. Which was an A+ read, I agree
I'm not a big Stephen King fan but The Stand was remarkable
Have y'all read The Godfather? Quick read and great book (yes just like the movie)

I've heard good things about Gone Girl. I downloaded it and am planning on starting it this week.
So 5 months later I finally read Gone Girl.

It was good. The ending left a bit to be desired but I'd recommend it if you're looking for a quick thriller to knock out.

A Tale of Two Cities.
Already read it? Read it again.

i normally don't say this, but i think i'm going to just do the movie on that one. i've heard good things about the book though.
Belle, I don't mean to sexually stereotype here, but have you read the Outlander series? My wife is going through those now and likes them a bit. She started giving me the plot and i fell asleep, but it seems pretty popular now.

Sure you did.

In all seriousness, I have a friend that's been trying to get me to read them but whenever she explains them they come off like a Harlequin/sci fi crossover. I usually stick to classics like Pride and Prejudice when I do romance novels.

that's the general consensus i got. i felt like it was 50 shades of gray (which she didn't read) combined with a time traveling Braveheart.
when she went through her twilight (mock me not), divergent, and hunger games phases i read those with her but this one just had absolutely no appeal to me.

I can't do Twilight. The little bit I read was awful.
I'll eventually end up reading the rest of The Hunger Games. I read a couple excerpts aloud from the first book for some students a couple years ago and enjoyed it. I get the feeling Divergent is similar, but I haven't read them.

I couldn't get into Twilight either, but I did read the 50 Shades series. It's porn in book form with bad writing.
I just finished Greg Iles Natchez Burning and really liked it. It's the first of a trilogy. The last book he wrote was The Devil's Punchbowl, which I also liked, and then he was in some bad accident and has been recovering since.

Hunger Games and Divergent are both great. Can't believe I still haven't seen the second HG movie or divergent.

I recommend Legacy of Ashes.

So I renegged and read Gone Girl before seeing the movie. All sorts of effed up, but in an awesome way.
We had 2 hours to kill in B&N this morning and I got a few.
Interestingly we were going to see Gone Girl, but when my wife demanded me to spoil it a bit, she nixed it because she doesn't do depressing, sociopath movies. We saw Maze Runner instead last night and picked that up as well as a few others.
One that I started today was Casual Vacancy by JK Rowling. Definitely a different turn for her as I have read about 10 profanities even I don't use IRL 20 pages in. Interested to see her outside of HP series.

Can you give me a spoiler free synopsis of Gone Girl? I keep hearing good things about it and was considering downloading it since I need a new book.

Dude's wife goes missing. We hear his recounting of the events as they unfold combined with their backstory from her diary's perspective.
Each chapter switches back and forth between his apathetic search for her and her detailing of their relationship from happy beginnings to deteriorating marriage.
Then it gets effed up.

Sweet. I'm gonna read it. Is it long?

Not very. Maybe 300 pages or so? It's a fantastic book and a good thriller. I'm definitely going to pick up some of Flynn's other books.

I'm a big Stephen King buff. The Stand and Under the Dome were both good books if you've got the time.

Try The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan if your in to fantasy books. Very long books but well worth the read
