Questions About Traveling to Columbia SC

My mom and I are planning on flying to CLT and renting a car. We should pull into Columbia between noon and 1 for the 4pm kickoff on October 1st. Planning on driving back to CLT after the game and staying in a cheap hotel there so we can fly out early Sunday back to DFW.
How is parking for a game around Williams-Brice? Is it typically easy to find a place within half a mile to walk from?
Any recommendations for lunch/dinner?
Where is the best place to walk around and check out the tailgating?
We haven't gotten tickets yet for the game. What is the best section to sit in for the game? Seems like there are some good ones on Stubhub for $100. Gonna try scalpers first. From what I can find online, the 20s side is where the visiting team sits (is this correct?).
Any other advice is greatly appreciated. I've been looking forward to making this trip for a while now. Thanks!

Dude, buy from a scalper. 2 years ago, I got 50 yard line seat 20 rows up for $30 and I didn't even negotiate.

Sounds like a better plan. Our hotel and rental car will be under $100. I work for the airline, so my plane tickets are free and my moms are under $50. This is gonna be the cheapest road game weekend ever.

As far as parking goes, I can't help you. I've only been to 2 games and both times I was tailgating with friends who have a parking pass.

I hate to say it like this, but don't buy from any black dude wearing a walmart SC shirt or neutral colors.
There should be plenty of other scalpers though. Those guys just overcharge like crazy.
Also, in case you wanted to know, visiting sections are 15-17 in the lower bowl, and the tops of 508-509, 501-502. I think all along the top of the South Endzone uppers too (900s)

Ty. If we can get 50 yard line behind the Aggs for under $150, that's what we'rere gonna go for.
How is parking without a parking pass?
Any food recommendations while in town?

Gameday Parking Information
There are tons of private parking lots around also. USC runs a shuttle from some of the lots that are closer to campus as well. You shouldn't have a problem parking.
Just be aware of the contraflow after the game so that you don't get stuck having to drive way out of your way to try to get to where you want to go.
I hope you enjoy your experience here.

Easy. Bluff road has plenty of parking. If you go down bluff road you will see Bernie's Chicken, Bojangles, etc. If you turn left on that road at the gas station (or at Bernies), there are plenty of 10-15 lots. Not the best location though. There are plenty of other lots too. You wont have an issue parking.
Best tailgating will occur in the fairgrounds lot. There's family friendly stuff on the other side, where the Farmer's market used to be. Live music, giveaway stuff and what not.
This is the Farmers Market area I was referring to. Usually has stupid games and stuff for advertising. A few TV's every now and then too. Behind it is more tailgating. The Fairgrounds would be on the opposite side of this.
I don't get to Columbia for food that much, so someone else can help you there. I tailgate at the Carolina Rigging building, which is just past Bernie's. If you ever see it, look for me
Hope all this rambling helped.

Park down on Key Road somewhere ... behind the stadium. Easy access to I-77 after the game.
Tailgate wherever you park. Afterwards, walk up to the stadium, out front in the fairgrounds, over to the west side across Bluff Road take-in Gamecock Park, the walk, Tommy Suggs Garnet Way ... head over back to the stadium, walk around Gamecock Plaza, take-in the Cockabooses ... watch for tickets while you are walking around.
Have fun.
ETA: Oh, and eat at Vella's ... it's a local joint - been there since I was in school a long time ago and it's on the way back to the airport. Good food, very reasonable prices. Lots of TVs with games on. Good people. There are some inexpensive hotels out that way as well. Cayce-West Columbia. You'll have to go out another way, other than I-77, to hit Vella's though.

Hope you have a good time! We admittedly don't have the greatest tailgaiting around, but you should have fun at the game.
Hope you like sandstorm

We do that now too. It's our 3rd quarter intro. Straight up stole it from you guys once we joined the SEC.

We only play it at the start of the game
and every time we get a touchdown
or a field goal

I think we have some of the greatest. I've been to all of them except A&M and our tailgating is as good or better than any others I've experienced.
We're a little more spread out, not quite as packed-in, but I think that affords us an advantage. More room to mingle and move around.
And as far as hospitality goes we're really second to none IMHO. I had friends and family in from Maryland and all they did was walk around in the park and over in the fairgrounds and they said they were so full of sampling food that by the time they returned to the Cockaboose they were too stuffed to eat. Plus they were taught, along the way, how to play that damn bean bag game and they had to start turning down beers.

Aggy is hospitality champs. Next year you'll have to come see for yourself.

Meant moreso scenery wise. We tailgate like mofrickers, but the area isn't much to look at.
WAAAAAY better than it used to be though.

No doubt. Took a lot of money and negotiating to finally own the old farmer's market.
I think, over time, as the trees grow in the fairgrounds grounds and over in the park ... it's going to be really special around there. I will not live long enough to see those trees reach maturity, but hopefully y'all will.
I tell my Son the same thing about all the trees we've planted together since he was a little boy. Trees are cool things ... they did a good job with the trees and the landscaping around the stadium.

Scrooster, is flying into Atlanta or Charlotte the best way to get to Cola? I know Cola has an airport, but it is small like Chucktown right?
