I was away on a two week trip during the baseball World Series and didn’t know how it all unfolded until after I got back home.

I also don’t follow baseball much. So here’s my question.... please understand this isn’t a troll at all. We are not on the rant.

I know it was painful to lose the final game but how bad was it? Was your team predicted to go that far? Is Arkansas baseball a big deal like basketball and football?

When Auburn lost the women’s World Series softball game, I was over it in 10 minutes because I don’t follow it much. I obviously wanted my team to win but it was not too bad. I think I would feel the same way about men’s baseball.

You could also ask it a different way to the Vandy and USC fans, was it a big deal to you when you won the college baseball World Series?

Just a curious question on a slow Saturday. No flaming needed.

This might be the first thread in history that should be on the SEC Rant but is on the OTB board

Usually the other way around

I know but if I post it on the rant it will be ugly.

Everybody smart mouthing each other and making jokes at the hogs expense.

It’s a serious question and the rant is never serious. It’s just mouth breathing nonsense that I am not in the mood for in regards to this topic.

This will sound odd... but I knew it was over when we dropped the fly ball. I said the appropriate things about winning game 3 and all that... but no college team bounces back from something like that.

It will join hands with the other classic what ifs of Arkansas sports history. What if Texas doesn't complete that pass in the Big Shootout? What if Broyles doesn't run off Lou Holtz? What if we don't fumble, untouched, going into the end zone against Bama a few years ago? There are a lot of what ifs in Arkansas sports history.

Baseball is fairly popular at Arkansas. We have a gorgeous stadium with wonderful fans... even if the parking is a pain in the butt. We also had a good feeling going into the season that we were going to be pretty darn solid (as in College World series berth at a minimum). So at least it wasn't the out of left field (pardon the expression) underdog team you really buy into that lost.

Our women's golf team losing didn't hurt as much, though I have a soft spot in my heart for them because its such a great example of a coach who is a lifer building up a squad brick by brick, because we just went to pieces right away in the NCAA championship even though we were ranked 2nd in the country. Its golf. Sometimes its just not your weekend.

I guess that answers my question.

In two days, we have almost no responses.

Must not have really mattered much.

It's still painful.

I'm happy it isn't talked about as much as I thought.

It was terrible to go that far and have that outcome.

This sure feels like #1

But this now feels like #2

Even if you hated the Hogs you had to feel some empathy for these 2 plays.

For years I held that play against Stoerner - and I mean years. Then I finally realized well I'm sure he hated far greater than I ever could.

So, I won't be mad at the guys involved in the baseball play- I'm sure they've replayed it a couple thousand times already in their heads. The only thing I'll say is that I'll always think Shaddy stop Shaddy sttttttop every time I see the gif.

I agree pigilicious (and momentoftruth) that the "sternover" would have haunted me for years.

Baseball not so much. Maybe for a weekend or two.

I hate it for any team that deserved to win it. In both of those instances, Arkansas should have had the trophy. No doubt. Because the opposing team did not "make the play" to win it. Arkansas failed to make a routine play to seal the win.

Your QB got his foot stepped on that lead to the loss.
You BB team misjudged a foul ball that lead to the loss.

That is what sucks more than anything.

I watched the Royals make their WS run a few years ago and watched that Arkansas team through over half those playoff games and that hog team gave me at least a better appreciation for the game of baseball. When you watch a semi-professional team you get to see the all cream no sugar of a sport. They were the perfect team and were beaten by a bunch of pedophiles.

It's really crazy because just about everything that could go right in the series had for us (maybe not so much hitting wise but as far as just random ball bouncing your way- plays and calls wise) and then this play happened and it was like the switch flipped and it was over.

I guess the younger me or the less bad shite has happened to version of me would be more upset but the guys tried their cute little butts off and sometimes it doesn't really matter, it just isn't meant to be.

ETA: This thread made me google my fave, Gates, and I see he signed as a free agent with the Orioles. Yay!

Not sure why it bothers me more when it is football or baseball.

Some heartbreakers in basketball, but I guess it is more common for something to change at the buzzer you accept it more.

In the back of my mind I knew it was over after the 2nd game. That is the game that hurt for a day but the final game really didn't do anything for me.

They were predicted by many to make the CWS and I think a couple of members in the media picked them to win it all so it was expected that they would be very good.

Not as big but not very far off when looking at other schools. In some ways it has taken some of the spotlight from basketball. Football is always king but Arkansas normally has a solid athletic program but basketball has been lacking for awhile now. I believe baseball eased some of the frustration from basketball.

I was pissed for a full day but after the series was over but it was really put into perspective. As many mention, most people don't give a shite about college baseball. There was barely any coverage I saw about the series the day after it ended. The pain probably would have last longer if there was more coverage of the CWS.

Yeah, I think we see this way too often. I understand the logic when the player appears like he doesn't care about what just happened but I don't think that is the case often times. The players have put more time and sweat than any fan. Hard to get mad at them when you know they are just as mad at themselves.

It was worse for us than most, because we really like baseball here.

Don't make us ship some herbicide to an Alabama fan. We can afford to send enough that they'll be able to wipe out every tree in the area.
