My friend's dad (military man) called him tonight an said he would be more than willing to pay for any legal fees if anything were to happen in a couple of weeks.

I have a hard time classifying churches as hate groups. I understand WBC is more of a cult that any kind of church, but I doubt courts will draw that distinction.

Somebody at work suggested, if they actually did show up, you organize a group of students to welcome them, make sure they are comfortable, offer them refreshments and provide them with bathroom facilities. The national celebrety of the students would destroy any hope WBC would have had to do anything and would probably turn the entire country against them in a way that could finally stamp them out.

What if you got a large crowd of people to just "join" them? Crowd in real close to them, don't talk to them, don't physically accost them, just pack in tighter and tighter until nobody can even move at all. Talk to each other, have a beer, and just stand around them for a couple of hours. TV cameras couldn't see them, nobody could hear them, it wouldn't be illegal since you have just as much right to stand on that piece of turf as they do. What would they do about that?

Presumedly they have permits to access public lands to demonstrate. Since those are their permits and not yours I'd assume you wouldn't last long amoungst them.

That's the idea. We need to get permits. I add onto it that we should have signs as well, just supporting Tuscaloosa

Does it matter? Obviously, you and me can see a difference btw Westboro and the baptist church down the street, but will the judicial system see that?
Slippery slope, I know, but classifying Westboro Baptist Church as a hate group leads to classifying every church as a hate group.

So within a years time, Ole Miss would have protested the reelection of Barack Obama, as well as accept the Westboro Baptist Church with open arms. Brilliant.
