The idea for the plate came from Republican state Rep. Adam Bird, who told cleveland.com last year that he wanted to honor his father Ron Bird, who played for the 1964 Crimson Tide football team.
According to the report, the license plates would cost an additional $40, $30 of which would go to fund scholarships for Ohio students attending school in Tuscaloosa.
