To answer your question. Baton Rouge is probably the most crime ridden SEC city

That seems right.

But its like an oasis in the South that other cities can't compare to

Nashville has plenty of crime and it's getting worse the bigger the city gets. Homicide rate has doubled the past 4-5 years. It is ranked as the 15th highest crime rate in the country LINK . It's not exactly the oasis people want it to be. And fwiw, I live in Nashville (or Franklin to be more specific)

I live here and you're completely exaggerating.

Have you ever been to Austin, Portland, or Denver? Its nothing like those cities.

Its not even that noticeable. They sell newspapers on the street corners.

North Nashville, Wedgewood Houston area, and some isolated projects in the East side are the source of the crime and it doesn't branch out to other areas much at all. This city feels so damn safe.

I haven't spent much time in Baton Rouge, and I guess I didn't realize just how crime ridden it really is. If it is already common knowledge on the board that Baton Rouge is a cesspool, I apologize. I had no idea it was that bad.

yep, the more money that comes to the city, the higher the cost of living becomes, and the more the homeless numbers go up. That's why I moved to the suburbs. The city of Nashville is one giant gentrification project right now.

It is so isolated.

I live in a "gentrifying area" (The Nations) and it feels very safe.

You live in the one of the safest suburbs with one of the best school districts in the country FWIW.

I lived in midtown for three years and worked downtown, and that's a lie. They're everywhere

I wouldn't feel safe in the nations. Maybe in 5 years I would

It is all pretty easily explained by the demographics of each town.

I lived in midtown for 5 years, Green Hills for 2, now live in the Nations.

Worked downtown and in midtown.

Its not bad at all compared to other large cities.

Flint, MI stand out way above the rest of the cities in their respective categories.

watching the Flint documentary series on Netflix is so depressing. That city may as well be Somalia

Nevermind, you're just a pussy.

My 100 lb wife walks our dog alone in the Nations at night. My entire street is young professionals.

TLDR: real cities are more dangerous than college towns

was very comparable to when I lived in Atlanta. I just don't care for dodging homeless people being part of my daily routine. And it got progressively worse over time. My wife got to the point where she didn't feel comfortable taking the dogs out at night or walking anywhere.

Yeah man, they made a documentary called Tent City USA based on exaggerations made on the internet.

Why would I care to exaggerate?

and two blocks over from you is probably a crack house. The nations was built right in the middle of a ghetto. The schools the nations are zoned for still are. Just because some builders started to develop a neighborhood doesn't mean the surrounding areas aren't awful.

I'm not a pussy. I grew up in Memphis. I know what living around crime is. I'm just cognizant of my surroundings. I know plenty of people who live in the Nations. i also know plenty of people in the nations that have been robbed. Sorry, I just prefer to reside where that is the least of my concerns. I don't feel the need to overpay for a house in a trendy gentrified neighborhood so I can be close to downtown Nashville.

In Baton Rouge's defense, there are basically 2 cities side by side that these stats call one. North Baton Rouge is very very crime ridden where most of South Baton Rouge (minus some small pockets like where Guice is from) is realtively to very safe. I've never felt worried about crime in Baton Rouge because I have no reason to venture into the northern part of the city where almost all of our murder and violent crimes occur.
