If you have problems probably one is not a good idea, but I get the issue with GXS. I never seem to have it long. I do serve mine at room temp which does seem to lessen demand. Seems with some the addiction is as much to the cold as the beverage. Generally, outside of dairy, I drink everything at room temp which is why I have no desire to drink soda outside of maybe club soda.
If you can get down to maybe a beer or two a day, probably not an issue as you can keep the monkey chained. If you are doing 12 a day you might just have to give it all the way up and go cold turkey. My one real addiction is ice cream but if I do not buy it at the grocery it is never in my fridge to gobble up. I know a bunch of guys in south Florida I hung out with when I worked there were all AA and lots of struggles. They had a Krispy Kreme factory close by and I started taking them KK to their meetings.
Glad to say after 20 and 30 years almost all are still sober!
Downside is they are now addicted to KK.

Hmm specific goals are tough when I'm going for reduction not elimination.
But I've managed to stick to my one day break between drinking and drinking less goal.
To get more specific I'm going to limit myself, on the days when I do drink, to no more then 6 units of alcohol. Be it 6 beers or 6 shots of hard liquor.
If I find that I can't stick to that then its time to start tapering off until I can remove drinking entirely.
As for the weight loss goals... I put on two pounds over the weekend. The celebratory pizza for the Razorbacks win was, perhaps, a bad idea.
Dropping 25 pounds at this rate is going to take some time. Today I had a 2 egg omelette for breakfast, going to eat a salad with no dressing for lunch, and then spaghetti for dinner.

My sure fire way to quit
When I was younger I was a plug tobacco guy but most of my buds were Skoal folks. Back then it was in loose cans and not the little packs. Had about half 1/2 can in on a bus with no bathroom on about a 4 hour trip. Got slapped on the back and swallowed it.
Was unable to chuck it back up but was gagging most of the way back and was miserable. Never touched it again, and even after 50 years I can smell it anywhere near me. Just the smell wants to make me

OP: my primary addiction is carbs which is tough being part mick and part wop, coupled with no more thyroid. With booze it is easy as if I do not buy it I do not drink it but carbs are tougher because I know how to cook and carbs are all around us.

2. Alcohol - no more than 6 beers and 3 vodkas on weekend.
I meant no more than 6 beers or 3 vodkas on Friday and Saturday-each.
Anyway-I did good this weekend. I had 3 on Friday and 3 on Saturday. Now, they were extremely large and doubles, but I only had 3 of them.

Eating wasn't complete shite and I did run on Saturday. Slacked on Sunday.
I didn't feel like complete shite this morning as I do on most Mondays, and woke up at 5:30 a.m., only to shut off the alarm and go back to sleep.

True dat.
I got my arse up today and ran this morning. It actually made for a much better day than waiting to do it at night.
Let's see if I can do it again tomorrow.
How are the rest of you addicts doing?

Way to get started with a run DSJ. You are on the right track. Keep it up!
I am holding strong. Cravings have subsided. Snacking at an all time low.
Getting thin!

Good news, my man.
What are your drinking in place of DC?

I am drinking water and adding some “True Lemon” flavoring packets. It’s all natural and includes stevia as a natural sweetener.
Compared to DC, it sucks. But it’s better than water.

Need updates from everybody in the next few days so I can update page 1 on Sunday.

I still can't seem to shed pounds. Weighed myself first thing this morning and I'm holding steady.
Reducing my alcohol intake has worked. Really wanted a few drinks yesterday after spending the morning locked in mortal combat with my health insurance company. But I settled for having two glasses of orange juice instead. So I'm not getting buzzed but I might develop diabetes from the extra sugar.
So I'm stuck on 277 pounds weight and my plan of skipping a day in between drinking and reducing my intake when I do drink to no more then 6 units of alcohol is also doing fine.
I may drink more then that if Vanderbilt crushes us in football though. Some things are too horrible to face sober.

This is a great page. I quit dip after 10 years 2 months ago and it was the best thing. But having support is key. That and truly wanting to quit. All previous attempts failed simply because I wasnt really ready to quit.
Positives just simply outweigh it. I calculated that I spent about $1300 a year on dip.
I have been drinking more recently tho and i think its just like a hole i need to fill from quitting dip. One at a time...

Just decrease consumption
EVeryone needs a few drinks some times.

Good luck to each and every one of ya'll! I am battling substance demons myself. On a positive note, haven't had a cigarette in 2 years and 2 months.

Great job SECUSC4! I agree. One thing at a time. The alcohol will be next to go.

Great job. You will think more clearly and it will help with the eating.
Don’t focus on the absolute number on the scale. Focus on the permanent change you are making going forward. As you increase your activity - the weight will come off.

That is awesome. That has to encourage someone.
The substance demons are next. You have already proven to yourself that you can quit cigs. I think those are the most difficult to quit because they are so socially acceptable.

Update: I’ve lost 4 lbs. so far this week. Got up early 3 times and ran once and did an outdoor workout class twice. Ate shitty on Wednesday but made up for it yesterday. 3 drinks last night after a long workday. 3 left on quota for the weekend. I’ve been pretty good cutting back on posting during work and after 9:00pm-but it’s been fertile shitposting ground this week.

Great thread. I’m 58, have had a heart attack, quit smoking 5 years ago, and I was a heavy smoker. In the late 80’s I was doing just about every drug except smack and I got in trouble with the law, but never served time. I won’t smoke weed until it’s legal, too big of a risk. I don’t drink except a couple of beers with my brother a few times a year. Alcohol was never a problem for me.
I’ll give you the benefit of my stupid mistakes. Until you are merciless with yourself about your problem, you won’t make progress. If you feel sorry for yourself, you won’t make progress. That doesn’t mean you treat yourself harshly, it means you know exactly where you stand with your addiction every minute of every day.
Examine your triggers and figure out, with help if need be, what is causing you to continually abuse yourself. Then eliminate them. If it’s your job then change your job, if it’s your wife, then get rid of her. Jesus, if she’s driving you to drugs then get the frick out. If she’s doing drugs too, you’re screwed. Drug users are apex enablers.
And that goes for your friends too. Especially them. I have one friend from the old days out of a group of hundreds. One. Exercise, find God or whatever sky god you fancy, volunteer, whatever it takes to get you involved in anything except what’s killing you.
Come to this thread for support. Make a hundred other threads on other boards if it helps you.
Be passionate about your recovery. Play for the win. Everyone in this thread is pulling for your success. Be smart, get help if you need it. But it all starts with being honest and I see a lot of that here.
