I love my city. No city in the world like it. Something for everyone.

the only city I've been to that I cannot stand to visit is Atlanta. I had more fun in Boise

I've been pretty tame in here, damnit.

Give me NYC, Chicago, Seattle, Portland, Boston, Atlanta, Miami, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, San Diego, San Francisco, and a million other places over NOLA.
NYC, Chicago - Are we really comparing cities with nearly 10 million people to a city with about 1.5 million people? I think that is kinda dumb.
Seattle, Portland, Boston, San Francisco - cool places.
Houston, Dallas, San Antonio - please. They may be good places to live but not to visit (I should mention you left off Texas' best city from the list - and also the one that is most comparable to NOLA).
Atlanta - kinda sucks but close to cool nature and stuff.
Miami, San Diego - beach towns. Other than the beach what else is going on there?

I only go to NOLA to eat. Can't get food like that anywhere else. After a couple of nights, I'm ready to go.
I hate how closed-minded a lot of people are there about any other city. Every time I go down there I have to hear reasons by every place else sucks. Sounds more like they're trying to convince themselves, though.

Houston is kind of underwhelming.

Jackson Square and the Cathedral. Waldenburg Park during French Quarter Fest.
Breakfast at Maspero's or Stanley in Jackson Square.
Lunch at Parkway Po-Boy's (order the surf and turf; order cheese fries w/Debris).
Dinner at either Palace Cafe, Muriel's or Cochon.
Mix in a stroll down Magazine, which is a world away from the FQ.
If you cannot appreciate the place, its either your pride, rigidity of thought, or inability to appreciate a city and a group of people who contribute to a Bohemian mindset that embraces simple pleasures and emphasizes an enjoyment of life along in equal measure along with the daily drudgery associated with earning a living and making your way through the world.
Walking away from a food stand with Pulled Pork smoked Nachos and a pistolette creamy crawfish roll to listen to Treme Brass Band performing for free while swilling an Abita Beverage is one way to enjoy life. No doubt there are others.
I've been to San Antone, Dallas, Houston, up into Santa Fe, to Biloxi, Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Auburn, Atlanta, St. Louis, Nashville, all the way up into Indiana and Michigan.
Never have I tasted a sweeter way to enjoy life than in the City That Care Forgot...
Just my $0.02...

Well said. It's not a cookie-cutter city. If you like places like Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, LA, etc, than you won't like NOLA.
It's a much more interesting and unique place than almost any other city in the country.

Not directed to you Wade...
Every time you Louisiana folks come to proclaim that nola is superb to any other city. No one cares but louisiana folks. Stop trying to convince people otherwise.
The fq is overrated and over priced. Magazine st? Lol!
Waldenberg park? No other city has a park near a body of water. Food? That's the only thing Nola has.

I think the word is unique, not superior.

I live in Houston and love it and also love NOLA every time I visit. I've partied on Bourbon and also done the quaint New Orleans local activities as well.
I know people from New Orleans want to paint those from Houston, DFW, Atlanta as these boring, drab people who "just don't get New Orleans and its style" but I don't really think that's the case. I know several other people from Houston and Dallas who feel the same way I do.

I'm not trying to say Houston is a bad place, I'm just saying it's a big, spread out city like a lot of others. It's a great place to live and work but it's huge and there's no real mass transit.
I can get from BR to NOLA quicker than you can get from Friendswood to The Woodlands.

New Orleans is the northernmost Caribbean city. Love it.

I'd add Washington to the list of unique cities. There's really no other city like it in the US; very European in design.

I like DC even more than New Orleans.

Me too. I do love to visit NOLA. The FQ has the feel of a pirate village, and I'd love to be a pirate if I were born 300 years ago

Most pirates were gay fwiw.
