An international team of scientists from the Max Planck Institute for Ornithology in Seewiesen, Germany, and the University of Oxford have revealed that New Caledonian crows are able to create tools by combining two or more otherwise non-functional elements, an ability so far observed only in humans and great apes.

If they are creating straws someone needs to tell them to stay out of California.

Some species of birds, especially the Corvidae, are remarkably intelligent despite their small size.

I read where climate change is actually making some bird species more intelligent, perhaps because the rapid change is selecting for smarter birds at a higher rate then usual.

Also I wonder why the institute is named after Max Planck. Wasn't he a famous physicist?
