Surprisingly, for me it was Florida State. Even though I am an AU fan, I went to see FSU play Troy about 10 years ago (former boss was a Troy alum). Troy came within 60 seconds of escaping with an upset. While all 5,000 of the Troy fans in the stadium were as rowdy as they could be for the entire game, you could barely hear a pin drop in the rest of the stadium. Even when FSU came back at the end and won, they were relatively silent. And their tailgating scene was atrocious.

Michigan. It was packed. It was quiet. They think they have an environment. Their environment sucks.

Doak Campbell is definitely overrated. We use to play FSU all the time back in the Independent and Metro days and it never impressed ... not even when they were winning big.
They're kind of like Tennessee. They're heydays may soon become a distant memory if they're not careful.

Neyland, hands down.

Kyle Field, has a shitty atmosphere, no music pregame except for speakers that were on the field. They also had a noise meter and before kickoffs it would say the DBs, for a few kickoffs the DB's were higher than the Superdome gets on key 3rd downs

I went the "The Big House" about 10 years ago. Was insanely quiet. I mean no SEC stadium is that quiet. I don't know if it's stadium design or what, but that crowd noise was truly muted.
I think Auburn was the most underrated. That atmosphere is really fun. I'd like to go to a UF game there for once, I went to an Ole Miss game because my friend had tickets. Really enjoyed it.

For me it's always been BHG at Florida, but Neyland is in the discussion as well.

Sanford was built in the 1920s in a creek bed. The advantage is you get incredible sight lines for games but the disadvantage is that it doesn’t hold noise like stadiums built straight up and down (Tennessee, LSU, Auburn, Florida). I get the impression that Alabama’s stadium design has much the same issue.
The only thing to do to fix it is to build an entirely new stadium which obviously won’t ever happen so you get a stadium that can be loud sometimes but won’t ever stay loud all the time

Neb. has the oldest season ticket holder fan base in the country and though an impressive sight with all that red, they literally sit on their butts and clap, absent the student section. Fla. St. at one point had the second oldest season ticket holder fan base.

Well, yeah.

Michigan seems to suffer from an extreme version of what plagues Sanford as far as noise goes. They just built this large sweeping stadium into a giant hole in the ground which produces a lot of white noise but little in the way of amplified sound pointed at the field

uga. Town is awesome, stadium is pretty bad. Especially if youre in that top upper deck. May as well not go.

Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
It's new and has some modern niceties, but I've been to nicer stadiums. I have no idea where all the money went. There's bare concrete everywhere and it looks half finished inside. The seats are really flimsy and seem cheap.
Biggest problem is there's like 3 major entrances/exits and getting in and out is a gigantic pain the arse.

Well we built that upper deck to shove all the opposing fans into an uncomfortable space so, yeah, you’re not supposed to enjoy it

Don't get so triggered by someone else's opinion. I'd have to agree, Bama is a very underwhelming experience. I think it's because you guys have been good for too damn long, the fans are basically bored. It was a lot better back in 2010 when I was in school at Bama. The wife's family has season tickets so I "get to" catch a few games at BDS every year. It's VERY underwhelming and disappointing. And thanks for killing Dixieland Delight for the rest of us.

That's probably how Nebraska has kept that streak of sell outs going(if it still is).
Yea their games seem very quiet on TV. I'd still love to go just to do it once.

Doak Campbell. 'Course, it was back in the early 2000s when FSU was going thru their 'lost decade.' I think it was seating around 80K back then, but was nowhere near capacity on that day. We pretty much sat wherever we wanted to.

I mean Ive sat in the middle and lower too and just not that impressed. I do like the bridge though as the backdrop. the concourses could definitely be re done though.
Posted on 6/24/19 at 9:09 am to auzach91
They actually just did an interview with our facilities director about the concourses and the response was basically they’d love to widen them but because of the age of the stadium and the way it is nestled between campus building on all sides it’s just not feasible to widen anything

Overrated for college?
(1) Neyland Stadium: First time visiting was 2006. The noise and the checkerboard was cool and lived up to the hype, but every time I've been back the seats are still insanely small. Everything about the venue makes the case for staying at home and watching TV.
(2) Sanford Stadium: I really like the setup of the venue, and how you kind of come upon it from the bridge, but it's not a loud venue in the least.
(3) Clemson Death Valley: Extraordinarily Outdated. Is nice you can leave at HT to drink and come back in.
(4) Rose Bowl: Don't care how historic it is, the first 3 levels of the stadium are below the playing surface. Sightlines are bizarre, getting in/out of those tunnels is a nightmare, and the concession situation is worst in class.
For Pro?
(1) Washington, FedEx Field: There are several college stadiums better than theirs. Nice for road fans, they almost always outnumber the depressed and apathetic locals
(2) Louisiana SuperDome: Credit where due, it's the loudest stadium I've been to, college or pro. But even with all of the renovations, you can't fix bizarre sight lines, mediocre concessions, and cramped walkways. Best views are the 300 level. Upper Level is staggeringly high (and views in corners cut-off parts of the end-zone, and the lower level, depending on where you sit, is weirdly angled as well.
(3) NRG Stadium, Houston: You can tell this stadium was built right before the next generation of stadiums (Dallas, SF/SJ, ATL, new LA) were built. It's large, but rather isolated and unspectacular. There's nothing wrong with the venue, I just expected a bit... more?
