interesting, wonder if the reverse could be done to objects to make them easier to accelerate somehow.
iirc as it stands, as you approach the speed of light, it requires an infinite amount of energy to reach light-speed.
wonder if you could frick with that in any way using this concept.

Yes. I'm just hoping it holds up.
I do, too, but after reading the paper it seems the authors have their own doubts and have their fingers crossed that peer reviews will bear their experiment out.
Here's a LINK to the publication for anyone who is interested in the subject. Warning: It might make your head hurt.
ETA: This is a very interesting conclusion

Beyond light, the effect observed will have applications to any wave theory, including sound waves and, potentially, gravitational waves.

This would be pretty fundamentally shocking to relativity, but I'm curious if the results of this experiment will prove reproducible.

I hope it's not a long wait for results. It would affect so much.

I'm not an expert, but I'd guess it couldn't possibly mean what the articles make it sound like to people like us. I'd like to hear an actual physicist comment on whether a sub-c photon would necessarily have a rest mass. That, to me, would imply monster repercussions in energy transport.

Why do you park in a driveway and drive on a parkway? Huh???? You ever think about that????

If we can learn to use quantum entanglement in communications, we already have an FTL method. It's instantaneous over any distance.

I hadn't thought about its bearing on the good ol' quest for unification.
Now I'm curious.

Well, gravitational waves haven't been confirmed yet. I know most of the theories point to gravity being a force akin to electromagnetism, the weak and strong forces but we found the carriers of the latter three and that confirmed them.
That we can't detect gravitons makes me suspect gravity is an effect of space-time rather than being a force. Some popular physicists such as Neil deGrasse Tyson and Michio Kaku also think gravity is an effect of space "pushing" particles together rather than "pulling" them. Dark Energy could well be anti-gravity since it pushes matter apart.
