Yea, I honestly have always tried to warn people. I just thought that it was me until I heard Kelly Ripa talking about it. Now I just wish they could find a way to fix me lol.

Warning people is the courteous thing to do. If they reciprocate your courtesy, then they'll be considerate. If not then I try to avoid them.

If the problem is severe for you, counseling works wonders. Some anti-anxiety drugs can help, too.

It really is pretty bad for me. I would rather eat somewhere that is extremely loud than somewhere quiet and risk hearing smacking or utensils clanging against people's plates. The louder the ambient noise is, the better off I am.

So glad to hear I'm not alone with this problem!
My husband, whom I love dearly, is so guilty of this & makes me feel bitchy when I ask him to please not eat so loudly.
There's no polite way to request it and he only gets mad if I do..
The worse to me is the sound of a fork scraping teeth...arghhhh
and my hubby wonders why I have to have the stereo or TV on loud when we eat dinner...

I totally have to tell anyone around me to stfu, or I leave the room. I don't care who it is. I grew up around my family at the dinner table and it was always very quiet chewing and good manners. The real world pisses me off.

It's considered polite and complementary in some cultures.

Used to have a roommate that would eat like that, I'd just turn up the television as loud as it could go.

I can't stand this either. The sound of other people chewing drives me nuts.
