I thought it might be cool to start a thread so that we can all find good music we are unaware of. It doesn't really have to be bands or singers from your area, just bands or singers that aren't mainstream.

I'll start with John Fullbright. He was nominated for a Grammy at one point but, not a lot of people seem to know about him.

How big is Zach Bryan in Oklahoma now? He's finally starting to get his recognition on the underground country scene, I'd hope he's pretty well known in his home state

He's pretty big. He's doing a couple of shows this month in Tulsa and they both sold out quickly.

He sold out his "Birmingham in Birmingham" show too. Local indie station started playing "Heading South" so he's picked up some traction here. I've been a fan for a while.

You should check out Charles Wesley Godwin if you like him. I learned about him from Zach's Twitter a while back. They're doing some shows together right now.

He is good. Thanks for the recommendation. That is what I was hoping to get out of this thread.

Durand Jones & the Indications

I grew up with Durand, went to the same high school, and was in marching band with him (he played sax; I played trumpet). The rest of the band is from Indiana, I believe, as they formed when he was in grad school up there. Now, they tour all over the world as well as make the talk show circuit.

Jovin Webb with Captain Green
Jovin Webb with Bayou Bullets

This baw was also in the same hs marching band on the drumline Was a top 10 finalist on American Idol in 2020.

Luke Starkiller
No one I grew up with, just a band down the road that I thought was super dope when I was in my late teens. It sucks that the rest of their EP isn't on Youtube anywhere. Their track "Same Sorrow" is one of the best epic guitar ballads I've ever heard. They're like a mix between Sum-41 and Iron Maiden, and they sounded even better live. Their guitarists were just rediculously good.

I swear I read this thread title and thought it said "Little known Swingers in Your Area."

I might have a problem.

Durand Jones & The Indications are awesome. One of my favorite genres of music. Takes me back to when I was young and my dad would play all the oldies. I’ll have to check out the others you recommended later. I have been stuck on YouTube listening to Durand Jones.

The Teskey Brothers

Here’s one of my favorite current groups that’s a similar style.

I’m a big fan of The Teskey Brothers. I’ll have to check out Durand Jones.

Out of Alabama - Early James. He just signed with Dan Auerbach’s Easy Eye Records and released an album last year on it.

Another lesser known but not from the area:

The Dip - They are a 7 piece band out of Seattle. They have several good songs. I don’t think they are that well known.

New one for me; they sound great!

My contribution - (not sure how well-known he is) killer guitarist Justin Johnson, with a different guitar on nearly every number, including big ticket instruments, a shovel, ammo can and a rattlesnake tail for percussion.
