10B telescope. I know the cost of anything doesn't matter to anyone because there are always more tax dollars to spend, but I have to think for the next 6 months while it's assembling and calibrating that a lot of engineers will live with some puckered body parts.

True af. The launch was the easy part of this operation.

Yep. This is like a Mars rover landing. There are hundreds of things that have to go right. If everything goes according to schedule this is going to advance our astronomy knowledge a lot.

The Webb is 100 times more powerful than Hubble. We may be finding inhabited planets within a few light years of us very soon.

Lost the link, but I was reading an article yesterday that explained everything that has to go right for this work. I was high at the time, so my jaw was on the floor from taking in the complexities and work that went into this.

This will be insane for us if they're able to get everything into position without a hitch.

Space is a hoax. Sorry to break it to the kids who’ve turned it into their religion.

Do we have a genuine flat-Earther here? If so, this thread should be good for some belly-laughs.

The next clench moment will be on Monday.

quote:

Ground teams plan to fire Webb’s thrusters at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24 to insert the space telescope into orbit around the Sun at the second Lagrange point, or L2, its intended destination, nearly 1 million miles from Earth.
