Sounds like one of those pointless stories that J. Peterman bought from Kramer.

I love NOLA. Little dirty? Yes. But so is most of Manhatten, downtown Austin, Vegas, Philly, and any town with history.

I've done a lot of awesome travel with my job and NOLA is up there on my favorites.

ETA: the FQ does have a funky smell, like that of sex, throw up, and regrets.

NOLA's a beautiful city. Katrina ravaged her but her spirit and it's people are strong. Some of her are gone lost forever but the rebuild was an opportunity to both cleanse and repair the old and create the new. You should go and experience (both Mardi Gras and not) it then draw your own conclusions.

Probably not a good policy scaring off the tourists when the oil industry is tanking.

I have to go down there next weekend for work. Not crazy about it, but at least I should get some good food out of the trip.

The U.S. is like a 3rd world country in many ways, and like an overbuilt industrial shite hole in others.

Kind of the worst of both worlds

Everything you read about NOLA is that it's a cess pool of vomit all over the place. Sounds like a very depressing place to live for someone who doesn't want to be drunk 24/7.

I've never been, was told that by someone that went to Tulane University.

She said her and her roommate had to boil their water at least once a week

I stayed for awhile with a friend at Tulane. It has to be the coolest campus in the south. That part of NO, at least, is sick.

No, however, not as many degrees from that as you may think.

Deets? I figured just really drunk people having trouble talking.

NO and Chicago are the only two American cities I still have yet to visit. I really need to get down there.
