Well I for one have vistied Texas, several times. It's rater meh, at best. Especially a certain little town in East Texas.
I lived in San Antonio for a bit as a kid. It's not bad but I've seem far better places in the USA.
I can't knock Texans (Or Californians for that matter) for having pride where they live. Maybe more people should do that, they would take better care of their land.
Texas will be a much much different place in 20 years though.

The north and south were divided by rifts as deep as the slave question discussed. Southerners were mostly born and bred in the South and viewed the industrial and immigrant North an abomination in its own sense. A "mongrel" nation being born.
To say it was purely about slaves without viewing the cultural, economical, religious (to a slighter extent at this point, nevertheless present), and political rifts between the two sides is wholly mis under evaluated

I doubt that very much.

And Ulysses S Grant wouldn't have just kept pounding on the South no matter the cost of lives if there weren't deeper roots of mutual hatred other than how to treat people. Grant sure didn't give a shite about any of his own soldier's life.

I hope not, but it's certainly trending that way.
When polls show Wendy fricking Davis could potentially get 40+% of the popular vote, it's tough to argue things arent shifting.

When I was a child I thought it was all about heritage. I then grew up and realized it is a stupid flag that has become a symbol that represents hate because of the events that surrounded it. The swastika wasn't always a racist symbol either but it has been stained by the events that occurred while it flew over a country.

Literally the only reason she is relevant is because she stood up and defended abortion for 18 hours. That's it.
And that person has a HUGE backing for governer's race.

We were a blue state in the not so distant past. So it wouldn't suprise me if it happened again. Especially with all the peopke coming here because of the jobs, cost of living, low taxes, etc. Those are the people who will frick it all up.
