Yeah you don't go on property you don't know around there. Plenty of back roads to be on, but not advisable to go on someones property.

It was, in fact.
The town of Zinc, Arkansas (Lead Hill to Zinc) actually has an old railroad depot still standing there. As I said before the hillsides are abundant with springs. Railroad in close proximity, remote area, abundant in fresh ground water = ground zero for bootlegging operations in the region.
I heard tale not too long ago that for awhile this area of Arkansas was deliberately kept "off the map", as it were, due to all of the bootlegging operations. By that I mean that they were reluctant to build any major highways through the area because the still operations were too numerous as it were. If they added a major highway, it would have been devastating from an organized crime standpoint.

We tend to come by our reputations honestly around here.

There are quite a bit of weird small towns around there that you wouldnt know and very little cell service out there too. Most of rural NWA has very little service still actually.
I will say that I was there when they started selling alcohol. Still have my membership card from Chillis and a Mexican Resturant in Mtn Home.

I know man! I think its supposed to get up to the 50's this weekend here - after the polar vortex that we just had.

Parts of EKY are like that as utility workers even in the 70's had trouble when in still country over there. Now they grow dope so probably even scarier now without a native as escort.
Meth is the one that worries me most. I was once out stomping the hillsides not far at all from Fayetteville (practically in town) and came across a man and his son that were obviously cooks. Worst part about it was is I had talked to him when I was walking up the road locating utilities and even though he seemed amicable enough, later on I had to cross his property. It was a mistake. He and his son both were armed and we had ourselves a real life crisis.

Ironically everyone knows this is a problem, but no one talks about it around there to prevent it. Everything is focused on racism and Harrison - when it is really zinc.
I havent looked into it in awhile, but Robbs daughter is the crazy one iirc.

Not sure if you are aware but back in the 30's Hot Springs was a "safe" city in that mobsters from all over the country were there but no crime was allowed because of it. It was like a recognized "vacation" spot so was off limits for hits or strong arm issues. Until we sold the place there a few years ago we had 4 or 5 generations of family there. Still get MVW shipped wherever I live, even today.

Ain't no big deal though. I mean, he's obviously using an alter and posting anyways.

Yeah. I've kinda come to the conclusion that anywhere you see horse racing is a place you're gonna find big money type crime. I tend to steer clear.

I'd love to go over there for a week and spend a couple of days in Hot Springs when they get the casinos up and running, take in the horse races, and then spend the rest of the time canoeing and camping on some of the rivers.

Oh, Hot Springs is beautiful! I tend not to spend much time there, but it is definitely a nice place to visit. If you take highway 7 out North of town there is a national park right there inside town limits. Well worth visiting. That drive from there north towards Dardenelle is really beautiful.

I think what has stopped me is it’s the same distance from here to the Ozarks, my old stomping grounds, as it is to the Ouachitas. Hot Springs would give my wife more to do than my rustic Ozarks locales, though. So now I have a better reason to go there and check it out.

Well, if you ever go down to Hot Springs you could also make your way to Crater of Diamonds. I've been wanting to do that badly. Also, if a person drives over to Mena way there is a real nice state park called Queen Willhemena State Park. That area over there is nice as well. Actual mountain type mountains over there.

As a kid it seemed the KKK was more visible in Indiana and the surrounding states than it ever was in the south.
Well iirc Indiana has or at least had more southern transplants than other states in the region. That may have made it easier to restart the klan because of those who had family in it in the south. Not sure though
I don't believe I've ever met a klan member but then that sorta thing doesn't come up in conversation much. There is still a disdain for Catholics among people there even in more northern parts of the state, a result of noncatholic churches, the klan influence, and the news of pedophilia didn't help things. I had a coworker who really didn't like Catholics. And then some of my family members aren't fans of them either.

We need our own IDF, Indiana Deportation Force

Do you live in Jasper? You could be in the JIDF.
