Girls in Birmingham, mostly SEC graduates, are better looking than any crowd of women I've ever seen in Florida outside of Miami.
If I was a 25 year old post-grad looking for a wife I'd much rather live and go out in Birmingham than Orlando, Jacksonville, Tampa or Daytona. Easily.

Mobile is a beautiful southern city and nearby Gulf Shores / Orange Beach has powdery white sand beaches. Mobile actually has quite a few hills and isn't your typical flat land city on the gulf.
Dude those barely count as hills.

If I were to permanently move away from SC, it would have to be to another state that, like SC, had both mountains as well as beaches. Both states you gave us to choose from have these two features, so I would go with Alabama.
Why? Well, something has to act as tie-breaker since they both meet my mountain & beach requirement. In this case, the fact that one of my all-time favorite songs happens to be "Sweet Home Alabama" would tip the scale in Alabama's favor.

Move to Alabama and that opinion will swiftly change.

Alabama is one of the more geographically diverse states in the country. Mountains, caves, beaches, large rivers and lakes, a brackish delta. The geography is great
I know they are technically considered 'mountains', but tbh they are just big hills in my book. I mean, they're nice but they aren't as prominent as something you'd find in Colorado.
Real Mountains is what you find out west.
Having said that, I'd live in Alabama over Mississippi any day.

Why? My fraternity has a chapter at Embry-Riddle. The regional conference is rotated among chapters in the Region.
You should practice not being a dick. It'll help your stress levels.

Glad you enjoy it there with your New Jersey transplants. Most of us want nothing to do with your parts of Florida.

The Appalachian chain and the Rockies are just two different kinds of mountains.
The Appalachians are ancient, worn-down, and teeming with life on all levels. To me, they feel timeless and somehow energetic AND sleepy.
The Rockies are new, blasting up miles from the Earth, peaked with snow and craggy beauty. Harsh, unforgiving, and a challenge to man's ego.

Compared to anything around Houston, Louisiana, or Florida they are.

I mean, sure, nothing in the East compares to the Rockies or the Cascades, but the Appalachian Mountains are Mountains.

Where I would live.
Alabama - Gulf Coast
Hoover
Huntsville
MS - Gulf Coast,
Madison
Pine Belt area (Hattiesburg). It offers everything you need.

TBH, I like Chattanooga and obviously Nashville more than any city in Alabama. I really like the area between Nashville and my hometown on 65 - pretty rolling hills until you get to Franklin.
I like Chattanooga but not a fan of anything west of that. Nashville is fun to visit sometimes, but I would not want to live there.
I don't think I would choose to live anywhere in the south outside of the Appalachian region, though. I get that I am in the minority with that opinion.
