I still pronounce it "GIF" instead of "jiff".

I just say the 3 letters G-I-F, I guess I'm weird.

Always said jiff. Gif just sounds awkward to me.

It's factually supposed to be pronounced giff instead of jiff. Like URL is You-Are-Ell, not Earl.

Creator said it was jiff. But he wrong.

Well if want to use that argument then factually it's supposed to be Gee-Eye-eff but no spells it out.


I'd usually go with what the creator says but he waited too long to tell us how to say it. Everybody says GIF already so that's what it became.

See, I didn't even know he said that, and I've been hearing computer people tell me since I was a kid that it was Giff.

And as for URL, those same computer people would tell me that acronym specifically was meant to be spelled out. I guess I just have shite info.

I interchange the two terms, tbh.
