I have a question for this board

Do you think that violent crime in this country would decrease if the punishment for a crime that received a sentence of life in prison or above was instead replaced with immediately being placed (feet first) into a wood chipper?

I don't think either would help. People who premeditate crimes think they're going to get away with it. People who commit crimes of passion, do so in a state of enraged irrationality and don't consider the consequences of said actions

I'll get accused of advocating no punishment whatsoever. This thread isn't over

I think violent crime (and other things such as unemployment) would steadily decrease over the next several years if for one night/day a year all crime was legal. Think about it, people have all this pent up energy to do harm and for one night they get to go wild. Stress and shite would be super low and would make for a chill country (other than the one crime night of course).
Really, it would just make darwinism do its thing.

No. Criminals are generally idiots who are completely incapable of thinking more than 5 minutes ahead.

You wouldn't happen to be the director of the Purge by chance?

You seen too many trailers for The Purge.

The Purge is a total knockoff of The Strangers isn't it?

That's a bit barbaric for a country that's supposed to the a shining example of civility in the world, don't you think?

Has anyone seen the Purge? I keep wondering what they're trying to accomplish (and I'm not going to see the movie; I don't go to the movies)

So what...don't punish anybody?

Aren't they making a movie exactly about this?

Not my type of movie. Looks stupid.

Anchored, for some unknown reason

Initially when I saw the trailer, I thought it was armies of well armed citizens getting one night of penalty free vigilante justice on the evil.
Once I heard they were going to release all the stress and anger that caused people to kill with one night of chaos I jumped off the train.

I don't think we are that shining example anymore regardless of death by wood chipper implementation
