Very damn smart.

It appears that science is finally catching up to the wisdom of the Australian Aboriginies. For a long time they have been claiming that wildfires are set by birds of prey. Sounds ridiculous, right?

But it's true. Hawks will pick up burning brush and move it to a new area in order to flush out prey. Pretty crazy.

No they are just arsonists and that is the cover story.

Some hawks just want to see the world burn.

And imagine, awhile back these birds were actually upright reptiles that were as big as humans.

A lot of people say that if they had a time machine they would like to go back in time to see the dinosaurs.

Not me. That would be scary AF. I consider us lucky today that we don't have any raptors big enough to consider humans a potential food source.

They say T Rex was not like in the movies. reality said he was a scavenger as he was too damn slow to actually run anything down.

From Nat Geo LINK

While they might have gotten you by surprise or on straight run they had no turning speed so if you zig zagged could outrun it and laugh at a safe distance.

The velociraptor would have been a nightmare to contend with.

We would definitely have been on the menu of Utahraptor, the biggest of the raptors. There were many dinosaurs that would have found us to be a tasty meal.

Dinosaurs came about when God was tinkering with the ingredients. When he got them right, he made man.

Had a hawk bust through a screen on my screened in deck and got stuck in there. He banged around flying into the walls and screens for about 30 min before I snuck out and got a door open. Then took him another 30 min to get out.

Didn't seem too damn smart to me.

Well, I mean, we have humans by the millions who take drugs that they know are poisonous to them but take them anyways until they kill themselves with them.

I doubt anyone would argue that humans are smart.

At the end of the day these birds are brilliant problem solvers. Hell, you can even teach them to hunt for you.

Ok, I see the Tide pods stories and am now thinking maybe I was a little too hard on the birds.

When we try to scare predatory birds off the catfish ponds we use shotguns for lethal force and butane cannons for non lethal scare tactics.

They will stand on the cannon and when they hear the "hiss" they will jump up and let it fire then sit back down.

You can drive by them with no gun out the window they will sit there.

Put the barrel out the window and they fly when you get within 100 yards. It's amazing to see

Well some species of parrot, such as the African Grey, are about as smart as a 5 year old child. Not Einstein levels for us but for the animal kingdom and given their small size that is pretty damn impressive.

That having been said... my mom has an African Grey Parrot and that evil little bastard is likely to outlive me.

USA made bombs out of bats in WW II

Britain made bombs out frats in WWII

Russians made anti tank dogs from the 1930's to the 1990's. Damn Commies!

I'm convinced that squirrels also know what guns are. I used to hunt squirrel when I was younger and I became absolutely convinced that they know when a person is carrying a weapon because you'll see far, FAR fewer of them when you have a rifle in your hands. If you don't have a weapon and you walk through the woods around here in the fall you'll see dozens of them every time. Go grab a weapon and they scatter.

They're crafty little shits too. They used to taunt one of my neighbor's basset hound by grabbing acorns and taking them to the very outer limit of the dog's reach (I mean just a few inches out of the way of this dog) and stare at him eating their food. Deliberately antagonizing him. Drove him crazy!

I was chilling on the front porch a few years ago and I saw a bird do something amazing. My cat was in the front yard and out of the blue I saw a bird leave a tree branch and dive at my cat nipping him then return to the branch. It wasn't just once either as it kept happening over the next several minutes. Thought it was hilarious.
