How much emphasis does your wife/gf/SO place on valentine's day?

Is she a "typical" female that wants to be wined and dined and taken to a nice fancy restaurant and all that jazz, or is she more the "let's just stay in and cook and drink wine and watch a movie" type? And for the female posters, which type are you?

Just curious since VDay was a few days ago.

I didn't have to even buy my wife a card. I buy her stuff year round, no point in paying double the price for something just because of what day it is.

My gf really doesn't care about Valentines Day. We do a pretty elaborate Mardi Gras and that's normally near VD.

We have been married for 25 years and dated 4 before that. She has never been a huge fan of Valentines day. But her birthday lasts about 2 months..

A card and an "I love you" suffices.

Um, I think there's a reason nobody calls it that.

My SO and I have done both. But she definitely places an emphasis on the holiday itself.

Mine told me yesterday that she mailed me something for Valentine's Day, but other than that, not a whole lot. We spent most of the day just sending ridiculous Valentine's Day cards we found online to each other.

If someone tries to do the whole cliché thing, it typically does more harm than good. I don't like to make a huge deal, and I typically like to do something at home to avoid all of the annoying people who have their half dead flowers with them at their obligatory fancy dinner.

At the same time, if someone completely ignores it, I get really irritated too. It's really a no win situation. The best thing to me is to make a quirky homemade or inside joke gift that requires a little thought and almost no money, make dinner together, or else have a dinner party, and let me do something like tie pretty red bows and decorate, because I love to tie pretty bows and decorate in general.

I think that if you are in a relationship, you should make the person feel loved and special every single day instead of just one day. But it's always nice to have a Valentine nonetheless. Except if you are in the middle of a rocky patch of a relationship or you know the love is dead. Then it's more depressing than being single.

Very little, unless I forget, then it's a huge deal in our next fight.

Somewhere inbetween. I enjoy the holiday and going out somewhere nice is always cool, but I'd enjoy staying in/being cooked for just as much.

That said, if Valentine's Day is the only day he makes that kind of effort I'm probably not with him anyway.
