Yeah, the military does with most all of their guns meant to fire a lot of rounds, like pictured.

So as much as I hesitate to wade into this online debacle of a thread I will.

Suppressors, known by some as silencers, have varying degrees of effectiveness. It depends on the the suppressor but it also depends on the round and firearm. Different rounds might make varying amounts of noise. Additional you can reduce the noise if you use a subsonic round. Lot that goes into it.

French FM-24
British Lewis gun

If you're asking about the "European one that jammed a lot" that was issued to US troops that shipped over for WWI, that was the French Chauchat (called the Sho Sho). It like all light machine guns was quite often used with a bipod. Of course it's bipod was pretty much useless because the weapon was usually going to jam once it got hot or dirty.
