You've gotten awfully surly since you cut back on your drinking to get in better shape for running. You need to booze it up while you can, your liver isn't getting any younger.

I got fricked up last night. I’m still drunk. I may or may not run this afternoon. This past week killed me.

I’ll get back on the wagon tomorrow.

Do you ever go to Big John’s?

I haven't, should I?

And the past few weeks have really screwed me up as well. While I don't run I do go for long walks (3-5 miles) several times a week and the weather has been such a pain that I was only out a couple of times when we had that brief burst of Spring.

Which, of course, means that my weight and blood pressure have started to creep up after a few months of both being on the decline. Need to get my lazy butt out there and get back to work.

You should. Place is the shite. Damn good catfish. Have you been to the dog track? I’ve passed it 1,000 times, but have never stopped.

Weather has sucked up there for the past month. Down here, too.

Wait... Big John Tackers Shake Shack? God, if that is what you meant I feel like a moron. I get their catfish about once a week. In my defense it takes about an hour for the caffeine to jump start my brain on the weekends.

They are building a new place right behind the old restaurant. Hopefully they move all the Elvis and John Wayne memorabilia with them.

I have been to the Dog Track twice. Its... like every other Southern Casino. Loud, tacky, and depressing. They do have some nice places to eat there I am told but the last time I was there we hit the buffet which was super crowded, had a really long wait, and served sub-Golden Corral level food.

I really can't advise anywhere else to eat in Marion... and you can add West Memphis to that list as well. The only exception would be the Marketplace grocery in Marion serves up good and dirt cheap fried chicken but its only out for 4-5 hours each day.

Yup. Good stuff.

The only other place I eat in your neck of the woods is Tops. It's... meh. I've never been to the Marketplace in Marion, but if it is like the one we had in my hometown, I expect it's pretty good.

We have an Italian restaurant here that used to be great, but the original owners retired and sold it, then came back, then retired again, then another three or four people have switched off running it... Basically they have the same menu (other then they don't cook steaks anymore) that they had when they opened 25 some odd years ago but the quality of the cooks has steadily declined along with the food.

Its still vaguely popular but its a shadow of the great restaurant it used to be.

As for Tops... somewhere other then the Mid-South I'd be fine with the place. But here you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a great barbecue joint.

What are the good places to eat in your neck of the woods? Also, let me know next time you are here and I'll be happy to treat you and yours to dinner at Big John's. I live just a few blocks away from there.

In my area, Leatha’s barbecue is good, but it isn’t as good as when Leatha was alive. Keg and Barrel is a local bar and it is good and consistent. Sully’s is good for steaks.

But this area is ate up with chains.

Mary Mahoney’s in Biloxi is excellent and probably one of my favorite places outside of New Orleans.

If I stop in Marion on the way through, I’ll take you up on that.

My family comes from Southern Mississippi and while I've never lived there... well not at age I would remember, I have heard y'all have some good eats down there.

Chains are hard to qualify at times. Some chain restaurants are awesome, others are the drizzling poo, and they can be from the exact same chain.

As an example, we went back down to Destin, Fla awhile back and we asked the locals where the best seafood place was (the place we used to go to when we lived there was destroyed in a hurricane). They all said Red Lobster. Because we were with friends that wanted "authentic" local seafood we ate at a few tourist spots that were adequate at best.

Remind me to tell y'all the story about the Palmetto Bug that landed on our table and had a leisurely stroll the length of it at one of those authentic local seafood places.

But our last night there we ate at Red Lobster... and it was great. Far better then the "local" places were.

I had a date request to go there once.

Long story short, the date ended when she announced at the bar afterward, and in front of my friends, that she had to take a shite.

We went back to my apartment so she could take said shite. She did. Stank up my bathroom. Then she wanted to go back out. I kindly excused her.

She did have enormous knockers. But with the smell of her fecal matter lingering in the air, I'd had about all I could take.

Just the thought of my body parts being near her pee or poop holes at some point in the evening was enough to turn me off of even trying to see the bewbs.

And I was serious about the poop smell. It was bad.
