I'll actually be staying at my mom's new house in Elkins. What is there to do in the area this time of year? Will 6th street be worth hitting up Friday or Saturday night? When I went during Thanksgiving break when I was in town for the LSU game it was rather underwhelming due to the holiday and how bad the team was playing. I probably should not expect much better during the summer and another holiday weekend

You pick really bad times to come to Fayetteville.

If you went out on 6th St. then you got what you were asking for. Newbs now call it MLK Blvd but at least you can get some chicken there.

I'm going back out to the Buffalo.

Most everybody that can manage will be out on a lake or river somewhere by tomorrow. Plus the weather is perfect. 70s, and dry.

I wouldn't expect much from Dickson.

JJ's on Beaver Lake might be fun for you. Should be rocking.

What about outdoor activities in the area? Anything that is fun without a boat (hiking, river canoeing/kayaking, swimming holes, golf, etc.)?

Shitload of stuff to do in these categories. Check out canoe rentals on the Buffalo. Could be the best use of your time while in the area.

Elkins isn't far from Highway 23 aka the Pig Trail. It's a really scenic drive near the Mulberry River and they hold Wakarusa on Mulberry Mountain every year. It's a beautiful area to just drive around with your windows down. The road has a canopy over it from the trees and there are some overlooks where you can pull over and see the mountains.

If you want to do something outdoors, here's what I suggest.

Go to the Buffalo River. For floating this late in the season, you'll need to get at least out to Tyler Bend near Gilbert. You can rent a canoe out there for 45 bucks.

For hiking and piddling around, there is actually better scenery and incredible bluffs around Ponca. Check out a trail called the Goat Trail. Weather is supposed to be superb.

The closest good stuff to you would be somewhere along the Mulberry River or even just fishing on the White River.

Wednesday. Go sit on the balcony at Hog Haus at 6. Now their food s pretty mediocre except for their wings. Their regular medium are awesome, their weekly made up sauce always sucks.

Here's why Wednesday is important. Half price tall drinks until 7 and then at 7, wings are half price. You can get 4 of their tall beers and a dozen wings for under 15 bucks. Just tell the waiter to bring you another tall boy right before he puts your wing order in.

Then go to the 21st Amendment and drink a scotch.

Ponca made me think about the Elk in the area. I saw a small herd in that field north of Marshall last time I drove down there.

Nawlins, you might check around and see where you might get to view some Elk in the area.
