NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Google is expanding a pilot program that equips school buses with wi-fi for students to Tennessee.
Google's 'Rolling Study Halls' adds wi-fi to school buses for students in rural areas or with long commutes so they can get homework done while on the bus.
The programs were first tested in the Carolinas and is now expanding to 16 school districts in 12 states.
Google will block access to social media sites and limit access to class-related sites.
Google is paying for the service for districts in Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, Kansas, Minnesota, New Mexico, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, and Virginia.
Each district will also receive Chromebooks if the schools are not already using them. Sites were selected based on median household income and length of bus rides. Which district(s) in Tennessee have not been revealed at this time.

Not a bad idea, but this is about two things, pushing shitty Chromebooks and data mining.

Not sure what you have against Chromebooks. They are functional when used as intended + attractive price

Hooray for using kids for data mining and targeting ads. I mean education.

Yes, lets mine the data of minor children
As for pushing shitty chrome books, it is the Pepsi marketing model to hook them young and sell them for life

shite, I remember when our district had buses without air conditioning and they would stuff us in there like sardines in humid, +100 degree weather
We have pampered millennials and whatever the frick this new generation is called way too much and turned them all into pussies.

Would you rather have them pay for it or beating each other up on the bus?
NOTHING is free especially online.

It can be free.
Hell these companies should pay you for the money they make mining your data.
Call it a data mining "dividend" the same way stocks pay you a dividend.
I think I read somewhere that Facebook makes a minimum of 1,200 per year per account. Zuckerberg could give back half of that and still be one of the richest people in the world. If you invade my privacy for your profit you should pay me something to do it. Most folks are idiots and just give it away for free so places like Facebook can get richer.

I love how technology is making it entirely possible for the youngest generation to grow into adulthood without ever needing to interact with other humans face to face.
Surely that won't cause any problems.
