Good morning folks. Two interesting tidbits Army's beloved facts of the day that I have babbled about before but I'll babble about them again.
This treaty was almost for all the marbles. The Mexican elite (the folks who really ran Mexico) got along very well with the US elite (the folks who really run America) to the point there was serious discussion of absorbing the entirety of Mexico into the United States. The Catholic Church had grudgingly signed off on it after being assured they'd be protected (and it the parts of Mexico that the US seized the church was protected) and the idea had buy in from both sides.
What scuttled the whole deal was that Mexico was vehemently anti-slavery and slave owning states would have quickly become a small minority. To keep the peace the US turned down absorbing all of Mexico and managed push off any disagreement for 13 whole years before we fought our worst war.
Khomeini was a frothing at the mouth religious fanatic and an unpleasant human being but the US drove the new Iranian government kicking and screaming into this. Khomeini hated the US (for really good reasons, we treated Iran and its government like toilet paper after a night of Taco Bell) but with the Soviet Union on his border the last thing he wanted was to be on our bad side. Remember, the Soviets had invaded Afghanistan recently. And Iran had vastly more wealth to plunder than the Afghans.
Their only condition in exchange for normalized relations was the US remain neutral in the ongoing Iranian revolution and not allow the Shah into the US. Which we did. Considering the Iranians had gone to great lengths to do their best to protect US assets during the revolution they took this poorly. And so we got the afterbirth of the modern Middle East as a result.

"Excuse me," he says, "but I couldn't help noticing your tattoo. Do you have a girlfriend named Wendy?"
"No way, mon, I work for the Tourist board. Mine reads, "Welcome to Jamaica, Have a nice day.'"

Hundreds of years of religious artifacts, some predating Christianity, were destroyed during this campaign. The high point of Eastern Christianity art was wiped out... except in Italy of all places.
The Eastern Roman Empire had partially recaptured Italy a few times, built churches and such, and then left. So, the only surviving art from this period exists in the home of the Catholic Church, the bitter arch rival of the Orthodox faith.

The indigenous people who won their wars against colonists thank you. In New Zealand the terrain favored defensive fortifications and the Maori had surprisingly sophisticated forts. After all, they had been fighting siege warfare campaigns for hundreds of years. Add to that they were very enthusiastic early adopters of European technology and they fought the British to a standstill.

1942 General Douglas MacArthur leaves Bataan for Australia.
A few days later the Australians probably started asking the US to take MacArthur back to Bataan and make the Japanese deal with him. He was not a popular guest of the Australian people and until very recently probably got top billing down under as the most hated American.
