Tim Bowens went to Brooks as well. I was once in the Lauderdale County school system and watched Tim clown us on a fake punt in 94 or 95. Couldn’t stand those d-bags at Brooks. Not quite as bad as Deshler, but they were close.

Deshler was just dominant. They didn't lose an area game in the 90s.
Brooks did have all of the Douchebags outside of Muscle Shoals and Florence City Schools. Turtle Point money made them insufferable for an otherwise podunk, North Alabama County school.

Okay, finally able to circle back around to this - sorry for the delay. Here are the bulk of the ones I was able to find with a quick search. These have all happened in the last few years. In virtually every case, the "victim" was a legally consenting individual, which is part of the problem with the law. The law needs to be rewritten to reflect its intent, which is to prevent relationships that are predatory. Until that happens, prosecuting agencies need to stop wasting tax payer dollars on cases like many of these. There are already ethics rules and guidelines in place to strip educators of their licenses for these actions. Criminalizing a 23 year old sleeping with a consenting 18 year old - and making the rest of us pay for the legal proceedings, is beyond silly, IMO.

Two of those are the same case discussed earlier where the local circuit judge found the law unconstitutional but was reversed on appeal. The charges were reinstated and the last I could find the case was still pending.
One had the charges dropped because the victim moved to Florida and refused to return to Alabama to testify.
One was dropped because the victim refused to testify. In that case the accused denied any contact at all. Just a guess but it may have been a case of bad police work supporting a false accusation.
One is a story about an arrest but I cannot find any story at all about the outcome of the case.
One reached a deal with prosecutors to avoid prosecution.
The last one is my absolute favorite for a couple of reasons. First is because my old employer was involved (I had a VERY small involvement in our part) and the second because of the sheer audacity and maybe brilliance of the accused. The charges against him were indeed dropped even though he freely admitted the acts. He beat it by marrying her. Since she was now his wife she couldn’t be compelled to testify against him and it was decided that the case couldn’t be successfully prosecuted. He is, however, now the biggest cuck on the planet.
You can argue that the law should be cleaned up when it comes to adults that aren’t in student/teacher situations and I’d agree with you but again, most of these cases don’t fail. They (like most criminal cases) are most often settled with plea deals.

I have no doubt that used to be the case, but I think there have been some legitimate and necessary holes that have been very publicly poked into the law. It looks like that’s made it difficult to prosecute except in the most egregious instances - but you likely know a lot more about that than I do. As for the story in the OP, I don’t expect her to be one of the ones let off the hook with the student being listed as under 17.
I appreciate the dialogue and insight.
