I saw in passing on SECR a while back and it has bothered me:

What the frick happened to duck hunting in Louisiana? I've never duck hunted there (always in Arkansas) but I've always assumed that Louisiana was a great place for duck hunting. I was watching something about bottomland hardwoods restoration, and several farmers in Arkansas and Mississippi have taken advantage of that program. Why isn't Louisiana prospering as well?

Ducks hate Louisiana.

The high crime, the political corruption, zero good pizza restaurants, etc.

Ducks moved to Arkansas.

When you hear "first you make a roux" you know it is time to flee the state.

Back in my time in Arkansas it was valid excuse to miss school for deer and duck hunting season. It the area around Stuttgart still the best place in the state?

It used to be about a month long. I haven't even looked at it after north Georgia was dropped from the hunting area.

From my knowledge, this isn't a Louisiana issue as much as it's a northern hunting practice result. You're seeing a lot of activity around hunters in northern states breaking up ice to create open water. Ducks fly south not because it's cold, but primarily because lack of open water due to ice sheets. It's affecting more and more southern waterfowl states. They stay long up north, making migration shorter, thus making distance covered shorter. Louisiana also doesn't get many of it's cold fronts these days until after hunting season/late January. Myself and many others deep down want the season pushed or at least accommodating the times when ducks are present. You mix all this with the pressure that ducks face in mid-latitude states, it creates a very feast or famine hunting experience in Louisiana.
