It's no different than any group of people you'll encounter through life. You've got some assholes, and some genuinely great guys that will become good friends. You'll meet more people than you can probably imagine.
It's at least worth going to some rush parties in the fall and seeing what's up. Drink a few beers, shake some hands, and have a good time. Worst case scenario is you got free beer and met people you wouldn't have otherwise met.

I just can't believe they're letting you go to Ole Miss.
Just be careful when you get here. A lot of the people I knew in high school that never got into anything ended up being some of the worst drinkers. Your case is a lot worse than any of those people, so it's possible you could develop crippling alcoholism during your first semester.

I want to meet someone that became a crippling alcoholic in a single semester. I know plenty of folks that are probably a drink or two from having an intervention, but none of them got that way over the course of a few months. That takes work.

I wasn't really sheltered or anything growing up, but coming to OM was still a different world. First two years were completely thrown down the drain. Wish I had gone JUCO for those years and matured. College is full of temptation

Well that was an exaggeration. I know lots of people that failed all their classes and got pulled out of school in one semester though, so that could easily happen.
