Yes.
Using your logic, italy is in this same situation every flu season. Do you think that is the case? It’s not.

I just listened Dr. Friedman (ex head of the CDC) 5 mins ago.And he said "If ANYBODY yells you they know how this is going to end they don't know what they're talking about"
I'll go with what he said over your ex classmates.

According to Italian health officials, the great majority of victims are elderly people. In fact, all those who died are above the age 60. And most of them had pre-existing health conditions
So it must be worse than the flu based upon what they are doing about it.

It’s a false flag
If I die from it then it was just my time to go.

Not even 3,000 have died in the rancid, dark, dirty, filth-laden, putrid heart of the virus in the whole nation of China.
Just how bad is the coronavirus?

China is not a reliable source of information. South Korea and Italy are much better barometers for assessing the effects of this novel coronavirus.

Okay, so China is lying about their death totals. They also say that the virus is on a downturn in their nasty, unclean, country full of coughing people who absolutely culturally don't even know how to cover their mouths when coughing.
Let's say it's 10,000 dead in China in about a month. That's still far, far, far below the total number of deaths in any given month, at flu season, during any given year in the United States from the common flu.
Also, Italy as has been mentioned is chock-full of elderly individuals. Have you ever been to Italy? It's more akin to the Middle East in terms of medical care than it is to Anglo-Saxon modeled nations.
Outside of Rome, Naples, Bologna, Milan, and Genoa they do good to provide hospitals and doctors as good as you would find in Ensley, Alabama.

Calm down. Sure it's infectious, what type of
influenza's not-
COVID-19 is not an influenza virus. It’s a coronavirus.
quote:
Higher mortality rate ? While at this time that might appear to be the case, many health officials think not necessarily and perhaps no different from typical viruses brought out of Asia."
The mortality rate cannot be determined at this time. The virus is spreading too fast and there are too many unknowns about its lasting effects. All we know is that it is brand new to the human population and is having a severe effect on the elderly and infirm.
Also, there is no definition for a “typical virus.” From Asia or anywhere else.
quote:
Why is the mortality rate higher in Italy ? Italy has the oldest population in Europe---and many of the deaths from Corona in Italy have been among those 80 to 90-years-old, the same demographic that any virus is deadliest among
The 1918 novel H1N1 influenza was far deadlier for the age group 20-40 than it was for older people who had built up some defense by having contracted other flu strains during their lives.
COVID-19 is also a novel virus and we simply can’t predict how it will behave over a long period in the human population. Right now it’s deadly for older and infirm people. It could mutate easily. That’s why so many health officials are so nervous about it.

I’d say they’re lying about this, too. They have 1.4 billion people. It would be ridiculous to speculate that even an authoritarian government could control this highly contagious virus.

Stop beating the flu drum. This is a coronavirus, and a new one, at that. It’s absolutely silly to speculate on its end characteristics. We have to operate on what we definitely know about it: It’s extremely contagious; it’s deadly dangerous for a significant portion of the population; and, a vaccine cannot be made for a coronavirus.

Most importantly, it’s an open society. We can believe the numbers they’re reporting.

You wish for me to stop beating the flu drum then you go on to list exactly the same things, concerning China's Wuhan virus, that makes the flu so dangerous.
The flu is extremely contagious.
New vaccines for different strains of the flu have to come out continuously due to it's constant mutation.
Flu virus variations are extremely dangerous for significant portions of the population.
A vaccine can be made for coronavirus, just as it can be for thousands of different versions of a flu virus.

If that were true, there would be vaccines for SARS, MERS and the four coronaviruses that, along with certain rhinoviruses, cause the common cold. A vaccine for SARS has been “in the works” for 17 years, ever since it first manifested in 2003.
MERS vaccine research has been funded since 2012 when it first appeared in the Middle East. Still no vaccine after 8 years.

Likely far more than that. Same with Iran. They have no reason to provide honest and accurate counts and every reason to downplay them.

They have a flawed, modern health care system, just like we do.
Problem right now is capacity, a problem we also face.
