It's almost like the true answer lies somewhere between the OPs "oh it's nothing" take and the hysteria driven take that we are all gonna get fricked.
People shouldn't gather, people should work from home if possible, postpone face to face meetings while we understand what we are dealing with. I can understand schools closing down as they try and limit the spread from children to more vulnerable groups.
I don't think travel bans, bans on restaurants, etc. Are necessary though. Just use common sense.

If they shouldn’t gather, they shouldn’t be eating in crowded restaurants.
