So my fiancée just flushing the toilet while I was showering and I lost 5 years of life.

What’s the reason behind toilets being flushed and water temperature changing? I’m sure it’s remedial but I don’t feel like googling it

Really old plumbing causes this. The last time I had this happen was sometime in the 1970s.

Pressure. Flushing the toilet causes a drop in the pressure on the cold side of the shower valve. Find yourself a pressure balance shower valve.

Your cold water loop gets depressurized by the toilet, and the thermostatic regulator valve increases hot water to compensate for pressure loss. Pretty sure anyways, and that may just be on commercial shite. I do HVAC not plumbing so take it w/ a grain of salt
