Blade Runner, Oscar Pistorius not guilty of premeditated murder

The verdict phase of the torturous Oscar Pistorius murder trial ended Thursday with a cruel cliffhanger.
Instead of wrapping up the case with a quick decision, Judge Thokozile Masipa extended the agony of Reeva Steenkamp’s family by first acquitting the South African sprinter of premeditated murder — then hinting she might nail him on a lesser charge.
“I am of the view that the accused acted too hastily and used excessive force,” Masipa said. “It is clear his conduct is negligent. And with that we will continue tomorrow.”
Everybody was stunned.
Steenkamp’s parents, June and Barry, had shocked looks on their faces as Masipa left the bench. Nearby, the slain model’s friend, Gina Myers, cried uncontrollably.
Pistorius, 27, was bawling too, but in relief. If Masipa had convicted him of premeditated murder, he faced 25 years to life in prison.
If Masipa convicts Pistorius of culpable homicide, the fallen Olympian faces up to 15 years in prison.
