try Cape San Blas this year. We didn't book it, but went back to our normal spot. Are the beaches and water comparable to 30A?
Last time I went to San Blas, about 8 years ago, it was more like old Florida. Not all touristy or built up. The main grocery store in town, Port St. Joe, is a Piggly Wiggly. The Cape is narrow enough that you can watch the sunrise and/or sunset on the water. If you go there from mid August thru mid September you can grab a 5 gallon bucket and fill in up with fresh scallops in the bay in knee deep water. Relaxing atmosphere.

Destin and other areas on the panhandle were great 30,years ago. If you can tolerate gridlock everywhere they’re still ok. I prefer the less crowed beaches of Georgia and South Carolina ... Not Hilton head or Myrtle Beach though.

Ponte Vedra Beach south of Jax is great not ghetto at all. Not crowded. Actually have waves you can surf. Great beaches. Water is great also but if you actually live somewhere you realize the water color is dependent on the water and what direction the wind is blowing unless you are in south florida.

Just met 2 different folks, different reasons.
Both can go anywhere they want.
1-Beach house Gulf Shores
2-Mexico Beach, Panama. (I’d live in Port St Joe).
Hurricane, except that last one ;) never hit Appalachicola Bay.

Don’t get the hate for the Atlantic side. I like the beaches near Charleston, and water temp is GREAT.

Haven’t been to many but beaches here in Texas suck. Oh you’ll get native Texans raving about ones that are superior to other beaches in state but it’s like they haven’t ever been further east to take anything else in. It’s hysterical they think those beaches are great.
We took the family to Destin for a week two summers ago and had a really great time. AirBNB right by the water. That’s not a bad 11-12 drive from Austin to the Florida peninsula - many don’t realize it’s not that ridiculous of a car ride.
I’ve heard about Golf Shores AL but it’s always the really older population and that makes me wonder about the quality - I don’t ever hear about young people or families going there.
My in-laws go to Sanibel at least once a year. You’d think they tire of it, but they are obsessed and have been wanting us to join them for years. The MIL is a shell collector so that has a lot to do with it. Apparently that’s one of the best places for that.
I don’t particularly like to get in gulfs in oceans but I happily got in the water at Destin.
Galveston is nasty - the water is opaque and there’s just a general stinch.
South Padre is the most recognized of Texas beaches and is a mainstay for Spring Breakers. It does offer some charm and is superior to other Texas beaches but still doesn’t hold a candle to what I’ve seen in Florida.
If we are talking SEC footprint I’d be curious about beaches in South Carolina and where they stack up…

I agree the Fort Meyers area is very nice.
There's no waves on their beach and everything was destroyed by a cat5 hurricane.

Pt St Joe is heaven if you like fishing. I personally dont like the white beaches. Find them boring. How did St Joes recover after the hurricane?

What color to you like rainbow or pink like most of your fellow aggie men would.
Dang aggies are weird.
You are the only person I have heard that does not like white sand.

Jupiter FL is a special place, the Gulf Stream comes closest to shore there than any other point in FL, the beach snorkeling and fishing there is amazing

If you want to know where the chocolate soft drink Yoohoo comes from, check out Holly Beach, LA. The water looks just like the drink.
