Actually, I'd argue that I'm popular on the SECRant and incredibly unpopular on Tigerdroppings....which is strange.

Incorrect. There is definitely a line you can cross. I know because I've crossed it.
Also, each board has its own rules. For instance, it is relatively easier to get banned on the poli board. As another example, posting in the wrong GOT thread will get you banned on the Movie/TV board.
Your theory isn't bad, and they probably do look at traffic generation when making decisions. But my experience and other evidence suggests that's not the whole picture.

I doxxed Fat Larry. No reason other than I didn't like him. It was a huge thread. He became a meme and everyone still bullies him. Other posters have done far less in terms of doxxing and gotten the banhammer
I've manipulated the censors to use banned words (like the n word), I've said jokes about Katrina and Les Miles wife not being a supermodel, I've defended lynchings and said all kinds of crazy racist things, I started a thread with "PORN-A-PALOOZA" in the title, I've spammed the board with tons of new threads and bumps to alter discussion.
And I got into a really heated argument with Ice Cold directly where I listed a lot of these things and more and demanded a fricking explanation from his bitch arse for why some people get banned for less and I don't, and I still didn't get banned.
