Do large investment banks use VPNs?
Let’s say Goldman Sachs for example

Work requires it.
Yea, for the worse. Pain in the arse disconnecting from a VPN when certain applications won't run on my virtual machine.

?? You're using the wrong VPN program/client then my friend. It's easy to connect and disconnect...

I use one for work. I have no idea exactly what it does, only that it is more secure

That's my point...the fact that I even have to do this is frustrating.

??? Taking 5 seconds out of your day is frustrating?

When you have to do it 20+ times a day going from host to VM and are utilizing MFA, yes...it's extremely frustrating.

Fair enough, I can see how that could get annoying.

I’ve never used one. My wife is required to for work. There are also certain security features that have to be built into her work notebook.
VPN makes it so you can use a public network as if it were a private network for security, protect ID, etc. So she can work from home (about 70% of her work) or at a Starbucks, client sites (25%) just as if she were on the company network.
So far I think the only place she’s had trouble connecting to the VPN is the local public library.

I have one through AVG. It's nothing special but it's free and I get decent speed still when torrenting.
What are you torrenting? I remember i used to grab albums before they dropped but that faded with streaming sites.

Can you explain further?

How is encrypting my data before hitting tor reducing my security exactly? It's not as preferred as bridging to a private server, but I'm missing out on how my security is reduced. I honestly searched tor project and saw no mention of this, so I'm legit curious on further explanation.
