Even after our disaster of a season we really like Vitello.
If he's interested you could do a lot worse then going after him. I hope you don't because we'd like to keep him, but HC at Missouri is a nice job.

I don't buy the whole MLB argument. First, softball draws solid crowds so baseball can. Second, attendance is going to be driven by students and the local community neither of which likely have season tickets to KC or STL. Third, teams like A&M, UGA UF Houston Texas Dallas baptist and others have solid fan support. We're only talking the difference of 50 to 3000 people, not filling a stadium with 20,0000

Mizzou baseball was not always this bad and the fan support was not always this poor. It was never what I would call great, but it has and can be much better. Baseball needs to be supported by students and COMO residents. As you said, driving a couple hours for a baseball game is not very realistic for STL/KC residents when both cities have a MLB team.
Also, as you mentioned Id be surprised if anyone has worse baseball facilities than we do. The latest renovation was a complete joke. Completely half assed.

Not that he will be able to play at that level, but my son who loves all things Mizzou has already commented about how going to Mizzou would be a step down in facilities stadium wise from his high school.

Ouch. Well with the yearly dump truck of SEC money pulling up you should be able to upgrade a lot of your facilities. Since joining the SEC back in the 90's Arkansas has practically rebuilt all of our athletic complexes... and that was before the SEC Network jackpot.
If y'all hire a good coach who can turn the team around, which won't be easy since you play in the SEC but is doable, I think Missouri will see a substantial increase in the number of fans coming out to watch baseball.

Yeah, we used to draw decent crowds but we had some pretty good teams too.
We definitely need some new blood. Time for TJ to move on

Columbia Missouri and the areas around the College are major failures when it comes to supporting MU baseball, basketball, etc
F'in failures
They are a joke compared to the other schools and the support their home towns give.

Soooo...we residents of Boone County have some sort of obligation to support MIZZOU athletics?

What he says is true lets face the facts. Moving to NWA a few years ago this area is all about the Hogs. Same when I lived in NWMO and was near Lincoln/Omaha the fan support was off the chart. There are loads of excuses but too many Mizzou fans/residents are just not vested enough. Now if you are on here you probably are vested but the excuses for lack of fan support are pathetic..Deer Season...the Cards..we sucked for 20 years...all excuses.

No one is obligated. Hell, more of that obligation falls on the university to create an atmosphere and experience that makes local people WANT to attend games, not because they're obligated but because they want to. The simple fact is, is that there are a few die hards, particularly when talking about non revenue sports but when compared to other college towns, the local support is miniscule when compared to others. The simple fact is they can't rely on people to drive 4 hours day in and day out for the non revenue sports.
Just as important, the university does little to draw student interest.

Let's face it. It's not just a Columbia/Boone County issue. I grew up in Rolla many years ago and the average person there couldn't care less about sports in general, much less driving 100 miles to go watch a sporting event.
I am not sure if it's an issue with Mizzou or the people in Missouri just not being very passionate about sports. I have no idea...I haven't lived in Missouri in 20 years though.

Columbia is a little different than many college regions. In the short time I lived there I met very few that had the education and means to really attend lots of sporting events. It just too transient. Or at least the part of the population that tends to be big supporters of athletics.

Baseball is next to nothing to get into if not free. Probably the same for most non revenue sports. It's just a question interest. Not winning is part of what causes a lack of interest but Mizzou does a shitty job themselves of trying to create it
