The rant was correct. Gonzo plays methodical grind it out bball. It's effective, but it's not exciting

Is it effective? Both his teams at Mizzou have under achieved. He can't seem to coach to his talent levels let alone get more out.

His team underachieved last year? Based on what?

If anything he might be slightly over achieving this year. He has one of the worst rosters in the SEC. He's been in almost every game

If anything he over achieved last season

Based on talent, lack of wins over better teams, losses to worse teams.

I hope cuonzo figures it out but right now people only have "hope" to defend him with.

We need a coach who knows how to win at a high level. There really isn't anything there right now to say cuonzo can or will at Mizzou.

He gets paid too much for pathetic excuses like this. Winners win and find ways.

This year the team is still way more talented than any KA team and might have a worse SEC record and people want to defend it.

When does this fanbase step up and start demanding more and stop with the lame excuses?

So your saying he/we need to cut loose some serious coin and get some free agents

What talent?

We had a grad transfer from Canisius, three freshmen and a washed out transfer from Texas.

I’m not encouraged by this year, even with the injuries. But don’t say stupid stuff like “he underperformed versus talent” last year. If you don’t say absolutely ridiculous things like that, you could have a conversation.

I don't know what the solution is. I only know that I thought cuonzo was a solid hire but now watching his teams for two years he looks like KA.

I would like to see better. Can cuonzo do that?

Pretty pathetic to bash players who did their best for Mizzou in order to defend a coach getting paid a lot of money to win.

This is college basketball. Good coaches win.

There was scoring, height, and athleticism on last years team. Go back and read posts from last year and find any where people were saying we just didn't have talent.

This is revisionist history at it's finest.

Roster:
CJ Roberts - DNP transferred
Terrence Phillips - decent, not starting level SEC talent
Ronnie Suggs - LOL
Barnett - good talent
Kassius Robertson - Metro Antlantic conference transfer
Mitchell Smith - received no other P5 offers
Brett Rau - who?
Jontay Porter - NBA level talent
MPJ - all world talent, DNP
Reid Nikko - not a starting level P5 talent
Geist - had no other P5 offers
Tilmon - great talent, freshman
Puryear - borderline P5 role player
Adam Wolf - good practice player
CVL - see Puryear
Blake Harris - decent P5 level talent, freshman, transferred

Where in the hell are you getting the idea we were loaded with talent?

And compared to the average SEC team, we were well below average on athleticism. Barnett was our only elite athlete after MPJ went down.

Bottom line is, there just is not enough talent on this team. When you don't have talent, you have to play boring and sometimes ugly games in order to win. The problem I have with Cuonzo is we're not doing that either.

As to lack of talent:

Watson, Pinson, Pickett, Smith and Tilmon are the only players of any talent. No coincidence they are also CM's guys.

Puryear, Nicko Mitchell Smith...should never be on the floor but we end up having to play them way too much because we don't have enough talent and the talent we do have is too young. CM will do fine if he can get his guys to stay. One of the problems with KA was that we were "starting over" every year with player attrition.

Tilmon, Mark Smith, and a healthy Porter are the only guys that would be getting primary minutes on a top 25 team. Geist might be getting 15ish minutes. Watson, Pickett, and Pinson would be getting end of game minutes. Santos, Puryear, Mitchell Smith, Nikko, Suggs aren't making those rosters.

I think you are underestimating Pickett. If I’m a coach, I absolutely love this guy. He can play. Great feel for the game and he’s the hardest worker on the team. I’d imagine he plays a lot for a lot of coaches.

Agree on the rest though.

Pickett isn't getting 25 minutes a night on any team in the top 25.

I don’t know. He’s a winning player. To me, he’s our best all around player. People seriously undervalue fundamental play. Coaches don’t though. If we had 5 guys that played the way he did, we’d be damn good.

Assuming that this is true, it's a major problem.

I too like Pickett. Right now our 3 Freshman have all shown potential, we just are in a tough situation of having to rely on them. Many a great team had players thrown into the fire when they were young. SLU team with Jordair/Mccall/Evans comes to mind. Played lots of close tough games that they ultimately lost early in careers and learned how to win over 4 years. By the time they left they were awesome. Those Majerus teams played a similar style to what Cuonzo is trying to instill.
