Coach has to learn

Really?

Who knew we had a tactical guru in our midst? I bet CM just laid awake last night wondering where he could go to "learn" some coaching skills.

For some reason the stripes do not like Tillmon. He is consistently whistled for fouling. I think he does commit more than the average number of fouls. However, every game he is called for a couple phantom fouls; every game! I wonder if he displays disdainful facial expressions on the floor? Does his body language indicate attitude? I am trying to figure out why he does not receive fair treatment from the stripes.

I’m guessing that someone gave refs a memo that “this freshman Tillmon fouls a lot.” There’s no other explanation for it. And I’m being dead serious.

Tilmon is a big strong dude. Those types of players are hard to officiate. Th SEC needs to invest in training and development of its officials. That would help a lot.

As stupid as this sounds it's probably 99% accurate

The officials didn’t have any problems officiating Silva or Kyle Anderson or Maten or Gafford or Gak or Egbunu.

Agree, there are many big strong players in the SEC down low. They are screwing Tilmon right now. No other way to put it.

It started before the season started, so he’s likely in for at least 2 years of this.

Not exactly the same type of player.

They’re big strong post players. Silva, Gak and Egbunu foul more than Tillmon does. It’s unexplainable that they receive better treatment from the officials than Tillmon does.

Tilmons problem is directly related to his flailing extremities.

He’s all arm and legs right now. His brain wants to go fast and the arms and legs aren’t ready.

I’ve seen him dribble off his feet on the post several times, spin and leave the ball behind, power dribble and end up right below the rim with no shot.

These are all symptoms of a brain moving faster than everything else.

He has the same issues on defense. Looks like he’s flailing and he gets called.

Luckily these problems are fixed with experience and some time in the weight room.

However, expect this to be the norm the rest of the season. Once he puts it all together he’ll be a force and the refs will layoff of him quite a bit more.

He threw his hip into his defender last night hard drawing a foul. Didn't even need to, he had position.

so he’s likely in for at least 2 years of this.
very possible

I officiated college basketball for 17 years, and big guys aren’t hard to officiate, it’s there are so many moving, big parts to them, that they have to learn to control, and he will. Dipping his shoulder into a player...using his arms to shield off or hook a guy...and body control. He doesn’t have it yet. So, yes, he does get more calls against him than others. And it’s pretty easy to see the mistakes he’s making. He’ll learn as he grows and matures what you can and can’t get away with. What advantage/disadvantage is. Most college officials call it that way. Who gains an advantage by committing an infraction, or who creates a disadvantage for a player by committing and infraction. That’s why often time see late calls. Officials are taught to hold your whistle till the outcome of the play is over with. Example....if a 7’ Post gets the ball at the free throw line, and makes a great move on his defender...then the defender hacks him on the arm 15’ from the basket. You don’t call that foul. You let the big man slam the ball home. Don’t reward the defender for committing an infraction and penalize the big guy for making a good move towards the basket. If you do call that, you now put him on the line for a 1 and 1 instead of an easy layup. So, you hold your whistle...advantage/disadvantage.

I think he’ll be better next year, and it will tail off as the season progresses.

It’s already gotten better, but I’ve also noticed that he’s less aggressive on the defensive end.

He got to learn the arm bar on post d, he’s got to learn to Time his jumps, and he’s absolutely got to learn that putting both of his gangly arse giant arms up on a player the entire time said player holds the ball will end poorly.

That’s where the arm bar comes in.

He’s also got to time his helpside reaction in the paint better. He’s there too quick and with both hands up, gotta time it better and be strong enough to elevate and get a clean block.

He just doesn’t have the strength or the legs yet.
