Or am I missing something?

One thing I had noticed and Heupel commented on (in his interview posted in the recruiting thread) is, they signed a bunch of team captains and players who played for state championships. I love that, especially the signing of players used to winning.

And as Danny Heitert mentioned in his interview (also in the recruiting thread), if 5 or 6 of Missouri's signees were from Missouri they would have ranked 1st in the state.

So there are some silver linings even if it's mediocre looking by rankings

Really the difference between 30 and 50 is negligible.
Or from 1 to 20? This years Clemson team was based on classes that averaged about 14th

I'm not saying I think it's a great class but when I start looking at it position by position, I just don't think it's so lousy either.

QB - Hell, even the Hogs say he's legit. Some out there better, but they have good things to say.

RB - Maybe no Fournette or Chubb in the group, but these guys should have time to develop, barring injuries.

WR - The one area of weakness in this class, but that's to be expected when you lose 2 of your top WR commits the week before NSD. Will help a ton if Davis can get his scores.

OL - Again, maybe not the Bama level guys but I like those we landed and again, they should have time to develop.

TE - This guys film seems to be closer to where we finally got Culkin by his last year. Maybe not talent wise yet, but style of play.

DT - I thought we filled a huge hole with some solid guys with some experience.

DE - I'll wait to see on these guys.

LB - They may flame out, but I like this group most of all.

DB - Who the heck knows. Can't be much worse than what we already have.

At the end of the day, far from a great class, even by Mizzou standards, but I still think we got some solid guys and filled some holes.

ESPN needs to stick with political commentary.

Here's what I see with this class; they're huge....all of them.......except that 1 guy (will probably be a returner) that's 5' nothing, weighing somewhere between 40 & 55 lbs

The Rivals archive goes back to 2003 and from 2003-2015, GP's average star rating per class was 2.9

GP had 4 classes with average star ratings of 3 or above due to elite local talent.

If Barry wants to get back to Atlanta recruiting has to get better but for the first full cycle a 2.8 isn't bad.

Their out of state recruiting will get better as they are able to sell MU to players when they are sophomores in HS. Not saying that MU is going to start poaching elite talent but the staff should start getting those 5.6 and 5.7 rated 3 stars that develop into 2 year starters during a 5 year playing career. Those guys and a mix of elite local players are what every 10+ win season was built on.

I agree with that, but I'm saying rankings aren't gospel. If you finish 13th year after year sure you not going to atlanta. But if you finished 6th or 7th and keep pulling a few 2 and 3's that wind up getting drafted and some others that turn out good you can. What was Pinkel's highest class, and what was his average? To win the conference is another deal. we'd need to be in the top 5 consistantly and still develop as we have historically. But if we want to be in the top 3 recruiting in the SEC we better upgrade our facilities and athlete's dorms and get our bagmen and car dealerships in line. Cause that's how it's done.

Or not get completely embarrassed in the SECCG?

What's the number average? 5.6 and 5.5 are both 3 stars. So is the average 5.4?

No. I don't have the class data in front of me but with 1 4*, 19 3*s and 6 2*s it would be about 5.55 3* average.

So in summary:

not a good class, but decent. Got some size and speed in the some of the right places.

need to get some elite (local) talent next cycle.

stars are for rehtahds, probably more accurate and effective to use them to rank our girlfriends, wives, and daughters.

some of yoose, given your goals, need to get off the stick and figure out if you are going to be a bagman or hand out the new cars, and the sooner the better

The average for the 2017 class is a 5.5 3* player.

The 2010 class averaged a 5.7 3* player.
