Here's what I'm picking up. I think Coach Kul knew the system that Odom wanted to run and got into the D-Linemans head before he left. Saying your numbers will go down bc they scheme won't attack the QB. So these guys are not committing to stopping the run. Which has killed this team in the past. If you stop the run 1 and 2 down then you get to pin yours back and get that sack. What these guys don't get is that TFL are starting to look just as sexy as sacks as far as stats are concerned

Dave Matter just pointed this out on Twitter. "A reader brought this up and stats confirmed: In 2013, Mizzou's defensive ends didn't have a sack until the 4th game of the season. Among Sam, Ealy, Ray & Golden, Sam had 1st sack in 4th game of 2013. Ealy, Golden 1st sacks in Game 5; Ray in Game 6. That 2013 Missouri team ended up with 41 sacks, led the SEC, ranked 4th in FBS."

So because they aren't defending the run well enough......... Cross thinks it's a good idea, to give the opposing QB plenty of time to complete passes?

Am I missing something here?

The read and react will benefit Mizzou in the long run by putting in place a defense that won't get run over in big games by teams with a lot of talent. The NFL primarily runs R&R schemes because a smart offense can neutralize aggressive DLs and make them pay.

My only concern is why this wasn't implemented more slowly - take a year or two to make the switch. Like half R&R and half aggressive DL this year. It will take time for it to feel natural, too much thinking and hesitation right now leading to missed assignments and tackles.

I just don't recall a lot of complaining about the prior scheme when we were running it. In fact, DLineZou was a point of pride for the team and fans. That's scheme didn't disregard gap responsibility either. They asked the DL to penetrate their gap and play the run on the way to the QB.

Now, this read scheme is the secret to beating more talented teams.

What I've seen so far is its more complicated and it's causing us to play slow and be out of position.

It is what it is. We aren't going to go back to what was working so they just need to fix it...and fix it by Saturday. Too many talented, experienced players on D for that side of the ball to be a liability.

Not saying this will happen........ However, if we get blown out Saturday......... Do we still see the same arrogance from BO and Cross?...... Sorry, I'm still stuck on, "haven't earned the right to pass rush yet".

Like you said, it is what it is.... Let's see what happens Saturday.

BO and Cross aren't doing anything radical in their schemes. It's a scheme that tons of really good college and NFL teams run some variation of.
If the players embrace it, they can have a defense that is as good as the ones the last few years.

I don't know if happened to watch the super bowl but Kony Ealy was amazing and would have been MVP if panthers had won. And Shane Ray looked great too in that game.

What you did here is a sign of a deep intellectual disease. I won't get into it now.

We've had DLmen that are good. No doubt. But we've definitely had some guys with nothing special end up benefiting greatly from the scheme and reputation of DLineU.

Based on the rest of your post it sounds like you have no idea what's going on and have little capacity to think rationally.

Cross isn't being stubborn. This is Odom's choice. Do you not understand that what we did before was gimmicky, it was high risk. What we're installing now is a real defense that is less susceptible to exploitation like we saw in our SEC championship games.

Michael Sam has no ability to be a collected and rational being. That we know as fact.

He was allowed to run wild with little restraints or rules.

Part of the reason he had no value to an NFL team.

This article got his hormones pumping and he felt the need to tweet about it.

Nothing to see.

The last time I checked, wiBO and Cross are the head coach and D coordinator. I don't know how it was where/when/if y'all played football, but where I come from you don't get the chance to "buy into" the scheme. You do the things that you are told, and how you're told to do them. Then, you do them at full speed 100% effort. You don't get a chance to offer input into "scheme."

If you don't do what you've been told and with 100% effort, see your sorry arse to the bench and I'll find someone that will do it right.

This is the same group that's been going round and round on the rant about being called a bunch of "safe space" babies and here ya are defending these spoiled athletes that aren't getting their way over the coaches.

Fk you and your condescending attitude Skippy.

I haven't been defending anyone.. Just asking questions... Like it, don't like it.... Fk off either way.

BTW Captain No clue. I'm not the only one asking these questions........... It hasn't been about the players per say.. Just the new scheme, and some of the comments the staff has made....

Now do you have anything real to add? Or are you still stuck on "safe Spaces" BS?

Arrogant douche bag

I think you missed the point there tough guy. The kids can play the scheme as coached or they can sit down and like it. I don't think a coach installing their system makes them "arrogant" at all.

Attacking the coaching staff because a few children don't want to play the game as they are told to play it and are pushing back seems a little out there on the edge to me.

Just calling it as I see it....so.......

So you are saying when AU set every kind of SEC rushing record there was to set in 2013 it was because Ray, Sam, Ealy, et el. sucked? What about Navy, or OK, or bama, Nubs.
Or is pointing out it happens nearly every time we play a team that can run cherry picking?

If he had said 'it doesn't do much good to rush the passer if you are leaving the run open' would that have helped?

Maybe go back and read some posts Junior..... Many here, including myself, are just figuring out the new schemes, how the coaches handle the players, etc.

I don't think I've read one post, regarding spoiled players, or safe spaces....

How did this become a discussion regarding "safe places" anyway???.. Sounds like your the one with issues son.

Let it go.

You stated the coaching staff was being arrogant by installing their scheme. Obviously, some of our athletes are not happy they're not getting their way and not playing up to their potential because of it. If you cannot see the parallel between that and the cs1950 b.s., than I can't make you see it.

Think about this for a second, pappy........would Nick Saban let a single one of his players give less than 100% effort because his way is not the way they "used" to do it? You think he'd let them squabble around about it? I bet you'd call him arrogant too.

Now you apologize for being an arsehole.
