I'm excited to see Lock play, but he is a true freshman. He's going to make freshman mistakes. I've been clamoring for him because I think he's clearly the future and I think he's ready to begin his learning curve. I don't think it automatically leads to more wins this year but I do think it's best for Mizzou for the future. I think most would admit that Lock, at true freshman, was at a minimum at least as good as Mauk, a 4th year junior.
So it only makes sense to get this controversy over with this year instead of next. It's better to get the experience this year instead of spinning our wheels this year just to spend next year with Lock gaining the experience. This way he goes into next year with that experience already.

I agree - he's going to make mistakes, probably some that will make us cringe. But he is the future, and it looks like that future starts now. Might as well get it over with this season and get the freshman mistakes out of his system.

Having gotten that out of the way...200 yards...over or under? We haven't had a QB throw for over 200 in a game yet. I don't think that's a crazy high number. So does Lock reach it?

Yes, he'll throw for over that. They've wanted to throw the ball every time he's been in and SC has a pretty porous defense. He'll make mistakes, but tbh I think he'll make fewer than Mauk and is more apt to learn from them.
I know some were calling for the move to play for the future. While this obviously does that, I also think he gives us a better chance to win in the now.

I agree Reedus... I expect this season to have some serious highs and also some serious lows but that's ok...
As a team I think Missouri can maneuver this schedule with reasonable expectations. The other prominent Elite 11 QB starting at UCLA just had a quintessential Mauk game against BYU where he had less than 120yds passing and 3 int's. The following week he led a prolific offense to crush Arizona. I expect similar performances from our QB.
I think this also has to help in recruiting for 2017 with both QB and high impact immediate skill players as well.

I don't necessarily disagree. I just don't expect it. I think it increases our chances of making a bowl. I would love to see the talk of winning the east go bye bye and if it happens AWESOME!!!!
Let's just enjoy the ride.

I already have lowered my expectations to the point where I think this team is a fringe bowl team regardless of who starts at QB. So as long as Lock gets snaps and experience and progresses, I'm good with that.

Winning the East? Lol! That's nowhere even near my thought process. I'm hoping we can win 7-8 games.

Lock has been close to scoring on every possession he has been given(outside the tipped INT).
I am excited, Mizzou has a chance to score 20+ points easily. The receivers will be pumped, the RB's will be pumped.
Michael Sam had some interesting comments the other day, and I can only imagine there was a rift going on inside the locker room between Mauk and some guys. When an old team mate lobbies for a Freshmen to play over his old QB, you know there's something up.
I'm stoked to see what Lock can do in a full game, it's possible he does terrible and we lose, it's also possible he blows the doors off USCjr and Faurot gets covered in jizz.

After the last year-plus of watching Mauk there's nothing Lock could do that would make me cringe.
I'm sure he'll make some mistakes, but I'm fairly confident the offense is going to look like day and night. His ability to hit a receiver in stride will make all the difference in the world. Yes, I'm in full kool-aid mode but a bonafide aerial, NFL-in-waiting stud show could give Mizzou some HUGE national press coverage for the next three years. And I can't imagine recruiting to the offensive side of the ball would become much, much easier.
Hopefully the reality check of just how bare the depth cupboard is on offense builds a fire under Pinkel's arse to start really competing for 4* offensive linemen so we quit getting our shite pushed in against the Georgia's and Bama's.
If Drew Lock is the stud we think he is he takes a stranglehold on the job starting Saturday.

No friggin chance of this......2 years ago we anointed MM as the GOAT and savior of Mizzou football.

As long as those mistakes don't become bad habits. Habits are harder to correct. All QB's make mistakes, for instance MM. He kept making those bad throws, he developed the bad habits.
Lock seems to have better timing with his throws. I think he'll be fine myself and don't think it will be too much for him.
