South Endzone Expansion( Water Table )

This is a question for some of you posters who are very familiar with Engineering and Architecture or anyone that can give me an answer. I've been to Faurot many times but I've never sat in the South Endzone for a game so when I do go it just doesn't cross my mind. If this is Germans, forgive me and TIA.

I'm confused.

I don't see the question in there.

Hmmm, I feel like something is missing here.
A link perhaps?

Whenever someone on the internet discusses the Southendzone and working on it, The question of the water table comes up and the problems associated with it are an issue.

I'm sure an Alumni or current student would know exactly what I'm talking about, and just in case one of you think I'm an alter I'm not. Born and raised right here in the Show me State and a lifelong Mizzou fan. This is an honest question from me and I'm not a Arky or Kansas fan or any of the trolls jumping onto this Board

The best way to prove you aren't an alter is to state you aren't an alter before being accused of being an alter. You're in the clear.

I thought the problem was the bedrock layer?

How can the water table issue be resolved?

What I was told several years ago by someone in the athletic dept is that when they built the south end zone stands it disrupted the drainage of the field. The field is in an old quarry, limestone I think. It drained to the south. With the stands there, and the layer of limestone/rock so close to the surface, the field doesn't drain properly.
Without adequate drainage, grass molds and dies, so we have turf. And always will have turf. Unless they relocate the stadium. And that's all I really know.

Thanks Remote. Should they just dig through it?

Short of some New Orleans type shite, I don't think there's much to do.
I'd guess raising the stadium on jacks and building up the field as well as extending the bottom of the stands down closer to field level would help with the whole grass issue, but that's got to cost a ton compared to the benefits of doing it.
I know Penn State raised their stadium on jacks, but I think the money is probably best spent doing the expansions planned and dealing with the turf/track as it currently exists.

What is the question?

The fungus problem with the grass is a bit of drainage and bit of air flow. The south endzone structure cut off the air flow to the grass which created a huge problem and promoted fungal growth.
As for the bedrock, that is only an issue for lowering the field and also what creates the drainage problem. There are no issues for south endzone expansion.

Yea I'd say that part would be highly cost restrictive, as in "might as well blow it all up and start over, it would be cheaper" expensive.
That said I don't believe there is any issue w/ raising the south end higher, as the east side renovation is doing. The real issue would be having the fans to fill that many more seats. Note Kentuckys current renovation is removing the top section of seats, making their stadium smaller in capacity.

Thanks Semo and Mizzeaux. That's the response I was hoping for. I've tried to link pictures onto this website before but it never goes through.

I dont know if we will need another expansion for a while. Do you all think we can support the extra 4,000 as it is? I think so. As long as we win. But until we win a lot of games for consecutive years,
Mizzou fans will be very fair-weather.

Could they possibly build some kind of retaining lake south of the stadium and funnel the water there?
