Really disappointed with Rhoades and this "safe" play. No real commitment to winning in baseball. It was all hot air. They even reference how this year is indicative of TJ's good years. Ummmm, hate to break it to ya. But that means in your good years you're not making the tourney and are a .500 team with a losing record at home, losing record on the road and have absolutely zero buzz about the team.
The only thing that might hold my interest for this team next year is if they sign Benes as an assistant coach in charge of pitching and recruiting since they just lost one of their assistants.

I think it is tough for a guy on the job for a little over a month to make a move. Mizzou baseball has had three men coach the program basically since World War II. I think he did a good job recruiting even as a lame duck. Hopefully he can do even better with a legitimate contract.
With an open spot on the staff and my thought that TJ is close to retirement, I hold out a sliver of hope that we can throw some serious cash at Vitello and make him head coach in waiting or something. That would be the ideal situation.

I don't mind this move. Looks like We are going to make a significant increase in the baseball budget. With more money for recruiting, travel, & assistant salary pool.
Even with a new coach those moves would of had to happen in order to even think about being competitive.

I mind the move because we know who/what TJ is and it is not good enough.
Very bad move new AD.

TJ is the safe play. We will finish bottom half of the SEC more years than not, but we won't be a consistent cellar dweller. The team won't make the tourney more years than it does make it. They will continue to play around .500 ball as TJ has done through his 14 years without Scherzer/Crowe. The team will play "ok" baseball. But that's the problem.
This move does ZERO to draw new fans or keep the fringe fans that might have just been showing some interest due to the move to the SEC and the SEC Network showing more games. The move might make sense if it was being looked at in a vacuum of just what kind of product is put on the field. But that doesn't take into consideration the unique opportunity that a new AD had to bring in a new coach that would would create a buzz and create more interest in the program. And I don't think it would have hurt the product on the field no matter who they brought in. No matter who it was, the product itself would be "ok" at a minimum.
Just a missed opportunity to take a baseball program that has been long overlooked by the AD and has very little following because of that and expand the numbers of those with interest in the program beyond the hardcore that has always followed.

I'd like to know if 6 figures is closer to 100,000 or 900,000.

With more money for recruiting,
TJ only recruits St. Louis so no worries there. And before you take the time to respond...I kid. He also apparently recruits Georgia.

I'm from St. Louis. I think there's pretty good ball in St. Louis, just watered down because of the number of options/teams. But there is life outside of St. Louis TJ. Just ask the national freshman pitcher of the year. You know, that kid that is pitching in a super regional for the #1 ranked team in the nation. Also happens to be from Missouri, just apparently the wrong side of the state.

For his part, Jamieson continued to perform his duties during his week in limbo. Jamieson was spotted recruiting in St. Louis last week during a high school playoff game between CBC and Francis Howell Central. `

There are a couple of thing that stick out with this deal.
1. It's only 3 years. Doesn't sound like the AD is completely convinced of what he can do, but is going to give him a chance to show what he can do with better backing.
2. With an assistant position open he could of pulled a Haith and used who he is thinking of bringing in as leverage to get the extension.
3. The additional funds to be used on the baseball budget could make the Mizzou job more attractive in a couple of year.

Disappoint.
Let's hope the buyout is low.

Rumor has it the buyout is $1.75.
Been a while 808. Know it's been slow. My lazy arse could have but didn't look it up but was wondering how the boys did in baseball? Found out my friend's kid plays for Westminster (about 4 down in the rotation as a sophomore) but it sounded like they were rattling off another long winning streak despite being pretty young. Think only a couple of seniors if that.

Should be a coupon for a free sweatshirt.
They finished 11-1 in conference. 27-6 overall. State winning streak is over. :tear:
I believe Matheny was a senior.
